Atlanta is one of the rare cities with three Kimpton hotels: one by the airport and two near the center. The Midtown option is the Kimpton Shane Hotel, located near the local campus of the Savannah College of Art & Design, the High Museum of Art, several corporate financial company offices, and the Atlantic Station development with stores and an entertainment complex. It’s close to a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and bars.
As is usually the case with the Kimpton brand, this Atlanta property is stylish and unique, with plenty of personality. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, blending in with the boxy glass and steel office buildings around it, but inside it’s filled with designer furniture and gorgeous aesthetic elements.
This urban high-rise doesn’t have a whole lot of extra facilities, but there are meeting rooms, two bar areas, and a roomy restaurant and bar duplex filled with natural light. A gym on the fifth floor has an array of cardio equipment, Peloton stationary bikes, and some weight training options.
I appreciated the fact that the gym isn’t the only place where you can fill your reusable water bottle like it is in too many hotels. Each floor of the hotel has a water station and ice. There’s also fruit-infused water in the lobby and coffee in the morning.
Drinking and Dining at Hotel Shane
The design of this urban boutique hotel is an open and flowing one, but with the various spaces set apart by elements that keep it from ever getting too noisy. Just to the left of the check-in area is the main bar you can sit at as well as lounge tables that were popular with small groups of business travelers when I was there.
The Hartley Kitchen is the main restaurant in the same area, serving all meals between 7:00 a.m. and 10 p.m. Breakfast has a clear southern focus, with a few hearty items that will provide enough calories for the whole day, but there are a few healthy items like oatmeal and an egg white frittata if you want to be good. Lunch veers more toward salads, burgers and sandwiches. Then dinner is a nice mix of international items and seafood, with some interesting additions like venison and avocado deviled eggs.
Upstairs is Aveline, with another bar and an outdoor patio to enjoy when the weather is nice. The focus here is more on crafted cocktails and local craft beer, with small plates to share. This area stays open a bit later, until 11:00 on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

Rooms at Kimpton Shane in Midtown
As with most Kimpton hotels, rooms at the Shane are attractive and comfortable, with plenty of touches that will please leisure travelers and a minibar that will please business travelers, giving their expense account a workout. ($10 M&Ms perhaps, or a $45 half bottle of wine?)
My room with two beds still had room for a contemporary sofa and a movable table made up for the lack of a desk. Instead there was a large dresser with multiple drawers, a safe,e and the cold part of the minibar set-up. A full closet was stocked with a plush robe, an umbrella, and a yoga mat. There actually was enough room to do yoga on the laminate floor too if I had wanted.
I would have liked to see more than one regular USB outlet, but there was also a USB-C one in the same array by the bed, plus two regular outlets. The cushioned headboards were joined by an array of pillows to choose from. The thermostat and Wi-Fi both worked well.
You’ll find quite a few high-end touches here, like an Illy capsule coffee maker, stone items like the soap dish and tissue box, and nice Atelier Bloem toiletries. I didn’t forget anything I needed on my trip, but I appreciated the fact that there was a list of items the hotel has on hand to loan guests, such as phone chargers, adapters, lint rollers, sewing kits, and nail clippers. They’ll supply a toothbrush or shaving cream if you forgot to pack either.
Rates and Booking
This Kimpton hotel is not the best choice if you’re coming in your own vehicle: overnight parking is a staggering $50 a night plus taxes ($40 if reserved ahead of time during the booking process). Rates generally run $150 to $400 before taxes depending on the size and the view, including the nightly Kimpton complimentary happy hour with red or white wine and some kind of finger food.
Kimpton is part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group, so you can earn or cash in loyalty points. Plus, you’ll get a member discount when you book directly on the IHG site.
