Near the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, Cleveland, Ohio, The Orbit Hotel is a cool example of what happens when a former NASA office building turns into a boutique hotel.
The Orbit Hotel Location is a Plus
The result is a modern, contemporary, fun place to stay with nods to its former use. I’ve stayed at many of the hotels around the Cleveland airport because of visiting family who have limited space for overnight guests. The Orbit Hotel is my most recent find. Its location next to the airport makes this hotel a good option whether one is flying in or out of Cleveland or driving in for a longer visit. The free parking and the ease of getting to most of what Cleveland has to offer, plus the reasonable room rates, make The Orbit worth considering. I was attracted by staying in a repurposed building. The Orbit delivered all that I hoped to find.
A NASA Vibe Throughout
The building’s NASA start is woven into several of the hotel’s designs. There’s a bit of a Lost in Space retro 60s look to the accent walls and furniture. Bright blues, oranges, and yellows in geometric patterns are features that set a tone of youthful fun.

Photos of rockets, space, and other NASA images are grouped on walls. One grouping is on the wall outside our king room.
When we checked in, the receptionist told us to enjoy the view from the 4th floor. Because guest rooms used to be offices, the windows run the length of the rooms. She was right. The view was great. We could see the airport lights and the entrance to NASA John H Glenn Research Center across the street from the hotel. In the morning, we could see the sunrise.
Guest Rooms at The Orbit Hotel
Because the rooms are repurposed offices, there is an interesting layout. Our bed was on one end of the long room, and the couch bed was on the other. I think a coffee table and a floor lamp would help to create a more intimate space. All the lighting is on the side with the bed. This is my one suggestion for improvement. Otherwise, the rest is great. The retro ’60s vibe is carried out in room decor. I loved the vintage-style phone on the desk. It looks like a rotary phone, but it’s a push button.
Rooms have a bar sink, small fridge, microwave, coffee maker and storage space for clothes. Our bathroom with its walk-in shower was bright with a cheery turquoise and grey color scheme and fit well with the room’s design. Small lights on each side of the bed and outlets to charge our cell phones show that this is a 21st century establishment for modern day use.
The Orbit Hotel Offerings

There is a wine dispenser in the lobby
In the morning, the lobby turns into a breakfast space. Because The Orbit is a Trademark Collection by Wyndham property, the breakfast is decent quality sausage, eggs, cereal, fruit, yogurt, various breads, and pastry types. There’s plenty of seating so one can eat and not feel crowded or in a hurry.
For adults, the lobby’s wine dispenser of red and white wine choices is a splendid idea. The dispenser works as a do-it-yourself wine tasting with small pour amounts, or one can purchase a larger glass. To get a glass, head to the receptionist at the check-in desk. There is also a well-stocked kiosk of snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, microwaveable food, and toiletries.

Hang out spaces on each floor. Notice the phone.
Along with the lobby’s hang-out space, each floor has a sitting area if someone wants to chat or read in a quiet space. In the building’s redesign, the back entrance of the hotel is still a lobby but with furniture that matches the rest of The Orbit’s sensibilities. The 2nd floor also has a meeting room area. There’s a fitness center as well.
During limited hours, there is a free airport shuttle.
Our king room was $116 through Hotels.com. Rooms range from two queen beds to king studio suites. This is a pet friendly hotel and Wi-Fi is free.
