Opened in June 2025, Margaritaville Kansas City is one of the newest hotels in the Kansas City, Kansas scene. Steeped in a tropical vibe, Margaritaville Kansas City offers breezy fun delivered with well-appointed class and a dose of luxury. Never mind that it’s in the middle of the Midwest. The hotel is a reminder that a trip to the tropics is a much-needed break. Happily, my break here lasted three nights.

Margaritaville Kansas City Delivers Signature Brand Flavor

With three colorful surfboards, aquamarine colored Adirondack chairs, and the words, “Mi Casa is su Casa” at the hotel’s entrance, Margaritaville Kansas City promises relaxation and fun from the get-go. This location, in the midst of new development at the outskirts of the city, delivers what it promises. When a gigantic blue flip-flop sculpture is the lobby’s main attraction, one knows to expect casual and laid back.

The aquamarine, lime green, and yellow color accents throughout the hotel create vibrant, lively spaces that the Margaritaville hotel brand embraces with gusto. Throughout, there are reminders to have fun. Sure, life can be serious, but at Margaritaville, leave some troubles at the door. Nods to Jimmy Buffett lyrics like “Searchin’ for my lost shaker of salt,” and parrots, of course, grace much of the artwork, including the back wall of the elevators.

Casualness Abounds – Dining Spots Included

Casual seating at Margaritaville Kansas City

Settle into a casual seating space to visit with friends and family, or find a more private area to tuck in with a book. Choose between a bench glider-style swing for two, an indoor cabana-like option, or couches and chairs with throw pillows that are fitting for a well-appointed beach house.

Margaritaville gifts

My husband and I grabbed a table and two chairs by Joe Merchant’s Coffee and Provisions on our last morning. After we packed the car and checked out, we weren’t in a hurry to leave. Taking time to enjoy a breakfast sandwich, yogurt parfait, and a cup of coffee before heading down the road hit the spot for a lingering departure. This grab-and-go convenience type store is one place to pick up Margaritaville-inspired gifts. Pop over the Margaritaville Store for more Parrot Head inspired items, clothing included.

Perfect Margarita at Margaritaville, Kansas City, Kansas

At the LandShark Lobby Bar, my traveling companion friends (all members of the Midwest Travel Journalist Association) enjoyed a range of margaritas twice. Both times I ordered the Perfect Margarita. For a frozen margarita, order the Fins Up version. A variety of margaritas, including watermelon, are on the Fins to the Left side of the menu. Other cocktail options are on Fins to the Right. One of us headed to that side. His Banana Breeze, a concoction of bananas, rum, vodka, coconut puree, and chocolate, is like a frozen dessert in a glass. It looked particularly yummy. There is a happy hour. Also, check out the weekly specials.

Landshark Bar and Grill, Margaritaville Kansas City

Because we were heading into the wealth of Kansas City, Kansas’s dining scene, I didn’t try out the Landshark Bar & Grill, the main restaurant. This cheery space of ample seating with Landshark decor also pays homage to Kansas City’s sports teams, including the Kansas City Current, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League.

The It’s Five o’Clock Somewhere bar and grill, the outdoor pool’s dining spot, is seasonal; however, the heated pool stays open into October. It is possible to order from the Landshark Bar & Grill and settle into a lounge chair to soak up some sunshine.  Private cabanas with a TV are available for rent, think charcuterie board, and enjoy.

Other Margaritaville, Kansas City, Kansas Amenities

Margaritaville Kansas City indoor pool

In addition to the enormous outdoor pool with its waterslide, the indoor pool is also geared for family fun. The pool’s climbing wall and jungle gym obstacle course is an active kid’s (and adults’) dream. Chaise lounge chairs, small tables, and chairs offer plenty of space for non-swimmers. I loved the floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides and thought about what a fun place this would be to hang out in the winter when it’s snowing.

Arcade at Margaritaville Kansas City Arcade

Fun is not just for kids at the hotel’s Fin City Arcade either. A neon sign touts, “Growing Older but Not Up.” Arcade games are for all ages and abilities. Prizes range from candy and stickers to stuffed animals and electronics.

On the last morning, I headed to the fitness center, a large space with enough exercise equipment for more than a few people. Free weights, treadmills, elliptical machines, and a Water Tower rowing machine are among the options.

Margaritaville Kansas City Guest Rooms

Margaritaville Kansas City premium King room

Our Deluxe King room with its balcony overlooking the outdoor pool was a splendid mix of comfort and fun. Like the rest of the hotel, the decor fits a beach house vibe. The bleached wood of the desk/dresser combo and the bed’s end tables create a casual ambiance, while the patterned blue carpet and light blue of the accent walls add visual interest. The Changes in Latitude bed pillow and the peach colored Margaritaville throw pillow on the armchair are other cool touches. The artwork above the bed of parrots flying across a dreamy landscape sets a mood for relaxation.

I loved the bright airiness of this space that included a large flat screen TV, a large closet with an iron, an ironing board, a luggage rack, a safe, a refrigerator, and a one-cup coffee maker in a wardrobe-style cabinet.  There are plenty of outlets to plug in electronics.

Other Room Amenities

Margaritaville Guest room bathroom

Two cotton waffle-fabric bathrobes are included with Margaritaville’s St. Somewhere Spa amenities for a luxurious bath experience.  The shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash are now in large bottles affixed to the shower and next to the vanity walls.  I did love those travel-size Margaritaville chunky bottles when I stayed at the Margaritaville in Pigeon Forge and Lake of the Ozarks. Still, it is good to be environmentally friendly.

When you use the shower, here’s a hint. The glass door goes two ways. Pull it out so as not to get the floor wet. Also, there is a rainfall-type shower head or a handheld shower. If you turn on the handheld first to get the temperature right, and then switch to the rainfall, you may like it better. I did.

Keep environmentally friendly in mind, hang your towels on a hook instead of leaving on the floor. Beds are made every day, but sheets are only changed every three days unless you ask.

The 228 guest rooms include 11 suites and a mix of two queens and king beds. The Deluxe rooms are the ones with the balcony. Premium rooms include a private patio and are open to the pool.

What is Nearby Margaritaville, Kansas City, Kansas

Tanger Kansas City at Legends

With free shuttle service to within three miles of the hotel, unless you feel like driving, go to Tanger Kansas City at Legends Mall. As you walk around, notice the tributes to a variety of Kansas’ greats like Amelia Earhart, Charlie Parker, and Wyatt Earp. This mall has plenty of dining and shopping options. We ate at Jazz, a Louisiana Kitchen.  This is among my favorite food, so it was hard to choose among the wealth of options.

Atlas 9, Kansas City Kansas

Don’t miss Atlas 9. You can walk there from the hotel. What is it? Imagine stepping into a multiplex movie theater in the 1990s where the staff has gone missing due to unexplained anomalies. We spent three hours here visiting the different rooms designed to look like a projection room, office spaces, break rooms, and more, to move up in participation status. It’s also part fun house, part arcade, part entertainment with performances by acrobats, musicians, and dancers, and part art museum. You’ll even show up in movie posters. I highly recommend this place for interactive, immersive fun guaranteed to keep you off your cell phone.
