Hotel Bodensee, also known as Hotel Garni Bodensee, is a modestly sized hotel located in the center of Bregenz. With a focus on practicality and location, it provides travelers with easy access to the lake, cultural venues, the Pfänderbahn aerial tramway, and the town’s historic streets.
Location
The hotel sits just a short walk from the shores of Lake Constance and close to the heart of Bregenz. The Bregenz Festival stage, the lakeside promenade, and the town’s cafés and shops are all within easy reach.
Parking is not available directly on-site, but it can be arranged through nearby garages or public lots. Guests can temporarily stop near the hotel to unload luggage before parking.

Public Spaces
Public areas are compact and functional. The lobby and reception are straightforward, with an emphasis on efficiency rather than decoration. There is a small comfortable seating area just off the lobby.
There are no expansive lounges, rooftop terraces, or wellness facilities. Instead, the design keeps the focus on the essentials and encourages guests to spend most of their time exploring the city and the lakeside.
The main shared space is the breakfast room, which is bright and well used in the mornings.

Rooms
The hotel offers around thirty rooms in total. Standard features include Wi-Fi, television, minibar, heating, a safe, and private bathrooms with showers. Some rooms also provide tea and coffee facilities.
Several rooms feature balconies, offering views either toward the lake or the Pfänder mountain. These are especially sought after during festival season and warmer months. Bathrooms are generally compact but functional, with hairdryers and basic toiletries provided.

Hotel Bodensee Bathroom
Mine was one of the smaller rooms with two single beds. It was clean and comfortable, although pretty plain in terms of decor.
Air conditioning is listed as an amenity for certain rooms; however, not all guests have reported having it, so availability may vary by room type. Some rooms (like mine) rely on ceiling fans or natural ventilation, which can be less comfortable during the summer heat. On a beautiful September day, cool breezes come from the Lake.
Special Features
Hotel Bodensee highlights its role as a small, personal property. The scale means service can feel more individualized than at larger hotels.
Other distinguishing aspects include:
- Rooms with lake or mountain views.
- Regional products featured at breakfast.
- Parking arrangements with nearby garages.
- Secure bicycle storage
I visited the Hotel Bodensee while on a bike trip, and the secure bike storage was a locked alleyway that was only 3 feet or one meter wide. So, while it was safe, it became inconvenient once there were two or more bikes being stored.

- Buy Travel Insurance
- Get an eSim to be able to use your smartphone abroad.
- Get a universal plug adapter
Food and Dining
Breakfast is included and is one of the hotel’s strongest points. The buffet typically features a variety of breads, pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, meats, and cheese, with an emphasis on using fresh, local products. Guests often remark on the quality and variety.
As a garni hotel, food service is limited to breakfast. For lunch and dinner, guests are encouraged to explore Bregenz’s many restaurants, which are all within easy walking distance. I recommend the nearby Restaurant Kornmesser, which has both inside and beer garden seating.
Facilities and Amenities
Hotel Bodensee does not aim to be a resort. Instead, it offers a focused set of amenities:
- Free Wi-Fi throughout the property.
- Elevator access to upper floors.
- Luggage storage and laundry services.
There are no spa facilities, pools, or fitness centers. The emphasis is on providing a clean and practical base for exploring.

I stayed at Hotel Bodensee as a guest of the Lake Constance Tourism Board during a biking trip around Lake Constance. The tourism board paid for my stay, but the opinions expressed are my own.
