Colorful lobby at wild palms hotel Silicon Valley Hotel

Tucked into the busy Silicon Valley town of Sunnyvale is the Wild Palms Hotel, a JdV by Hyatt property. As soon as you walk into the lobby, the colorful decor by design studio BHDM transports you to a 1960s pool party, and that vibe continues throughout the property. Whether you’re visiting with family or booking a few nights as a business traveler, the property has plenty to offer, from a free buffet breakfast to a game room perfect for teens.

The two-story property has a motor lodge feel, with plenty of free parking. There are no elevators, so request a ground-floor room or ask for help getting your luggage to the second floor. I stayed in a second-floor room facing the swimming pool and found that I didn’t notice any street noise during the night. All the rooms have a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker, and the retro feel continues into the brightly colored hallways and room decor. There are even a few larger rooms that have a kitchenette, perfect for an extended stay

A buffet breakfast is included with your stay. A selection of hot options (pancakes, egg bites, potatoes, and bacon were on the menu during my stay) was on offer, plus yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, and bagels. If your visit has you there Monday through Thursday, pop over to the lobby in the afternoon to grab a complimentary happy hour glass of wine to enjoy in your room or on the patio.

The Pool

Most of the rooms at Wild Palms Hotel encircle the pool area, and you’ll definitely want to bring your swimsuit. After a busy day playing mini golf at nearby Golfland USA or testing your bravery on the rides at California’s Great America, a dip in the pool is the perfect option. A jacuzzi relaxes all your cares away before you head to the heated pool for a swim. I especially loved the water feature that added to the zen vibes and drowned out any traffic noise. Just off the lobby is a game room that’s perfect for the kids when they need a break from the sun. Grab some board games from the front desk or challenge each other to a game of ping pong. For those who want to continue their fitness routine while away from home, the property has a small fitness room that’s open 24 hours (it even has a Peloton!).

While there’s no restaurant on-site, you’ll find snacks and drinks for sale in the lobby. There are plenty of Indian, Korean, and other restaurants nearby, plus chain restaurants like P.F. Chang’s. I walked a few blocks where I found three food trucks serving up Indian and Mexican cuisine, the perfect option to bring back to the hotel and enjoy by the pool.

Final Thoughts

Wild Palms Hotel is located in Sunnyvale, a convenient location for those doing business at the Google campus or catching a game at Levi’s Stadium. San Jose Mineta International Airport is your closest airport at just 15 minutes away, while San Francisco Airport is about a 45-minute drive.
