Flying to Namibia in Southern Africa is a major commitment of time, money, and physical endurance, as there will be many connections that potentially span over a couple of days of flying. But it is totally worth it for travelers who enjoy nature and wildlife as well as austere Martian-type scenery. The country offers desert-adapted wildlife and a landscape that is so unique, no other place in the world is quite like it.
If you are lucky enough to be traveling to Namibia, your first stop will probably be the capital of Windhoek. And for weary travelers looking to rest and regroup before their African safari of a lifetime, there is no better place to stay than the Weinberg Windhoek, part of the Gondwana Collection.
The Location
The Weinberg Windhoek is a luxurious property that wraps around the Am Weinberg Estate, a heritage building, once known for its vineyards. Today, it is a gorgeous hotel tucked away in the Klein Windhoek suburb, offering a variety of restaurants and rooms for weary travelers recuperating from international flights. Interestingly, it also seems to be a hotspot for locals craving gourmet dining options that include steak and seafood. Plus, the Weinberg Hotel is a great place to book larger events, conferences, and even wedding venues.
The Hotel
This classy suburban hotel comes with 3 restaurants and some superb lounge spaces throughout the property. The manicured courtyard is especially inviting for drinking, dining, or simply relaxing. Take time to breathe the air and soak in the local surroundings before embarking on your wildlife safari of a lifetime.
The hotel offers transfers from the airport; however, surcharges may apply. I didn’t use this service as I was a member of Aaron’s Photos Tours, which took us directly to the hotel. But based on what the website says, a fee of NAD 500 per person is charged for airport transfer and must be requested in advance.

There is a 24/7 front desk with room service. If you happen to be driving a personal auto or rental car, it is nice to know that parking is also included. A small gift shop is conveniently located by reception.
After you settle into your room, be sure to check out the Sky Lounge, with its panoramic views of the surrounding valley. While I was there, it proved to be a popular place where I easily met many travelers and locals. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, the panoramic view is priceless.
As a guest, you also have access to two upmarket restaurants and a delicatessen within the property boundaries.
And if you have time, check out the gym.
The Room
The Weinberg offers 41 stylish guestrooms that come with a hearty breakfast. The selection of breakfast foods was more than ample and very tasty as well.
I was pleasantly surprised at the preponderance of wonderful amenities available for such a small, boutique hotel. Staff are professional and courteous, always with smiles.
The rooms at the Weinberg Windhoek combine old-world African charm with modern amenities. All spacious rooms include air conditioning, a desk, a flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom.
There is a Tea/Coffee Maker in all rooms as well as a variety of local cookies to enjoy with your in-room coffee or tea. The cookies were so delicious that I devoured every last one of them in a single sitting. Then I remembered I hadn’t photographed the delectable treats. But take my word, they were absolutely delicious. (I blame it on my jet lag for cavernously devouring my sweet treats.)
The Food
The restaurant serves international cuisine in a sophisticated but casual setting. I stayed several nights as a member of Aaron’s Photo Tours, and I distinctly remember that the choices were many and all delicious. This is what I like most: A varied menu that can accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions as well as palate preferences.
The Rates
For the best rates online as well as special packages, book directly with the hotel website. Or for alternative rates, check Booking.com or Expedia for competitive prices. Depending on day of the week, season, and room type, rates run from around $198 USD per night upwards to $341. Be sure to check the website for special promotions.
Check rates online at Expedia, Booking.com, or Hotels.com.
Also, be advised that this is an extremely popular hotel with both international travelers as well as locals, so it is really essential to book your reservations in advance to ensure you can be accommodated.
The Bottom Line
This is one of my favorite hotels in the city of Windhoek in Namibia, the capital of the southern African country of Namibia.
Food is varied with various selections to fit the most discriminating of palates, all dishes are very delicious and even nutritious.
Amenities are many, including the in-room cookies to go with your in-room coffee/tea. Just don’t make my mistake and consume the entire jar in one sitting. No regrets, just wished I had saved some for later.
