Holiday Inn Express & Suites Eugene Downtown Fun

Are you looking for an affordable hotel in downtown Eugene, Oregon? Holiday Inn Express & Suites Eugene Downtown offers fun and affordability to both the business and budget conscious traveler.

Holiday Inn Express hotel lobby with beige cloth sofa with black, beige and gold geometric pattern on the long pillow, against the beige solid cloth frame. Small, circular faux wood table is in front of couch. Olive green small leather and wood chair is across from table and sofa. Beyond the sofa are several tables and chairs of various sizes, serving as the breakfast room for the hotel.

Located off 1-5, one mile from the University of Oregon’s Autzen Stadium and within walking distance of shops and restaurants, this Eugene downtown hotel won’t break your budget. The four-story, 2-star, independently owned hotel is aligned with IHG hotels, thus offering IHG reward members value pricing. The hotel was built in 2007 and renovated in 2017.

While Eugene’s water quality is good, the hotel has a water fountain and filtered water station, as well as a 24-hour coffee and hot water dispenser in the lobby for tea and hot chocolate.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Room Types

There are standard rooms, standard rooms with 2 queen beds, king suites, suites with 2 queen beds and 6 spa suites at the 114-room Eugene hotel. All rooms are in one main building that includes an elevator and stairwell. Guests may opt in to receive bonus points for a greener stay, i.e. opting out of daily house keeping.

King bed with white duvet and four white pillows. A black, wood headboard includes mounted reading lights on either side of bed. A small, built-in black side table was on either side of bed. An archway separate a blue cloth sofa bed with rectangular dark wood and metal coffee table. A tv remote control is on the table. A floor lamp is on, to the left of the sofa.

I reserved a standard room and was upgraded to a king suite because the hotel wasn’t busy, and I have IHG gold platinum status. After this stay, I will have earned platinum elite status which earns me even more hotel benefits. I’ll be staying at a lot of IHG properties next year and look forward to the extra perks such as late check out and upgraded hotel rooms – when available.

My king suite included a mini refrigerator, small microwave oven and Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom included a tub/shower combination with Dove bath amenities mounted in the shower. There were also blackout curtains in the room.

My room, with a king bed, had a separate area with a queen sofa, sleeper and flat-screen TV. The spacious room had a studio layout in that the king bed was not in a separate room, yet it did have a second flat screen tv across from the bed. There was a desk area with a chair and a small desk lamp, as well as a separate chair with a footstool for reading. There is not much of a view in room #416, but some hotel rooms on the south side face Hendricks Park, a popular attraction.

To the right is plastic bread cabinet with English muffins, bagels and bread. Next to cabinet is a toaster. The L-shaped white countertop holds 4 silver chafing dishes and a square wood plater holding white paper plates, napkins and packages of eco-friendly utensils.

Holiday Inn hot breakfast buffet

This particular Holiday Inn Express & Suites included a complimentary hot breakfast buffet. I opt for the Greek yogurt or a hot bowl of Quaker oatmeal with brown sugar, walnuts and raisins. My husband likes the turkey sausage and bacon with a cheese omelet or biscuits with sausage gravy. Children will like the cold cereal selections, make your own pancakes or cinnamon rolls. Additionally, there is fresh fruit, coffee and water, as well as a juice dispenser with apple, orange and cranberry juice on tap.

L-shaped indoor swimming pool with metal handrail with 3 steps in the pool. Two ADA lifts are draped in blue plastic tarp and sit next to the pool and small hot tub to the right of the pool. No lifeguard on duty sign is predominantly displayed at back of pool.

Hotel amenities

In addition to an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, there is a small fitness room. Road warriors will appreciate the on-site complimentary laundry room with washers and dryers. Guests may purchase laundry detergent in the small Grab and Go snack room to the left of the reception desk. This area also sells candy, popcorn, and other snack items.

Hotel room rates vary by time of year, as well as activities taking place in downtown Eugene and the University of Oregon. I reserved a standard queen for $132.00 plus state and occupancy tax. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Eugene Downtown offers AAA and AARP hotel rates. The hotel is not pet-friendly.
