If you are exploring Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, you might find yourself in County Donegal. This is our second time visiting Co. Donegal and our first time staying at the family-friendly Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny, Ireland. I’m attending a travel blogger conference, and this Letterkenny hotel is the host property.

Exterior of the 2-story wing of the Mount Errigal Hotel. Stone exterior with whte stucco siding and windows along the 2nd-story building.

We arrive a few days ahead of the conference in order to explore Glenveagh National Park and Downings Village along the Atlantic Drive and Tra na Rossan Bay to Island Roy. If you like scenic, outdoor adventures, you’ll be happy with this centrally-located 4-star hotel.

The 4-story, family-owned property opened in March of 1984. The hotel is undergoing renovations on our visit, including the recently remodeled Lillies restaurant.

Hotel room with 2 twin beds and blue green and beige carpet. Each bed has a white duvet, 4 white pillows and a blue, white and gray runner at the base of each bed. Blue cloth headboard in square pattern with wood frame.trim. Small wood laminate shelf to left of each bed.

Family-friendly Mount Errigal hotel rooms

There are 139 rooms in Mount Errigal hotel and three room categories: classic, executive, and superior. We booked a classic room and were upgraded to an executive twin as we will be here for 7 nights! The room is light-filled and comfortable with a small round laminated wood table, a wood chair, and a velvet lounge chair.

I’m not sure if our room has recently been renovated or is waiting to be renovated, as the paint is peeling off the armrests of the wooden chair. There is a small closet with an ironing board and an iron, as well as 4 built-in shelves. Surprisingly, there is no in-room safe for me to stow my passport or laptop.

We request robes for our room as I read that superior rooms include robes, slippers, and a larger TV. The reception staff is happy to oblige with our robe request. To our delight, the white cotton robes are on our beds the next morning. I lie to myself that I will wear the robe to the pool in the morning.

Both my husband and I were happy with the tub – shower combination in that the controls were easy to operate. He prefers a handheld wand, while I like a waterfall shower head. Mount Errigal met both of our shower preferences.
