Buenos Aires, Argentina, ranks high as one of our favorite South American cities. And one of our favorite activities is the tango show with dinner at Gala Tango. However, it is more than tango and features regional folk songs and dancing as well as live music.
Though we enjoy everything about the show, the evening highlight for us is the tribute in song to Evita, the Argentine political leader Eva Peron, the second wife of Argentine president Juan Peron. The show is conveniently accessed from our home base at the DoubleTree in Buenos Aires.
The Location
For one of the best strategic locations in Buenos Aires, you can’t beat a stay at DoubleTree by Hilton in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This 4-star hotel is about 6 km from the Jorge Newbery Airport, and depending on traffic, about a 10–15-minute taxi ride.
Centrally located downtown, this hotel is known for its upscale and dependable accommodations and is located only 2 blocks from Florida Street and San Martin square. It is near Puerto Madero’s restaurant district. Here you will find a selection of restaurants and upscale shopping. Since my husband and I forgot to bring our jackets and we were eventually headed to Patagonia in Argentina, we were able to locate the necessary gear to ensure our journey would be warm rather than cold.
The Hotel
This downtown hotel is a tribute to urban sophistication. Marble lobby floors and classically comfortable furniture await you inside.

As a side note, this hotel seemed to be a favorite choice for overnight stays for many airline crews in transit.
Dining choices include the Machado Cafe, where you can enjoy light meals. The other choice is the Azorin Restaurant, where you can dine on international and national dishes. Plus, there is 24-hour room service available.
A complimentary buffet breakfast is included with many room reservations. However, be sure to check when making your booking.
Other amenities include a heated indoor swimming pool, free Wi-Fi, spa and wellness center, as well as a fitness center.
The desk is open 24 hours daily.
The Room
The hotel has 209 guestrooms that exude a sophisticated elegance highlighted by top-of-the-line technology. Neutral tones and spaciousness dominate rooms defined by modern convenience and luxury.

Rooms feature minibars and smart televisions as well as desks.

The private bathrooms include a shower and tub combination with deep soaking bathtubs. In particular, I appreciated the magnifying mirror for applying makeup. It was a nice touch.

The Bottom Line
This is a wonderfully appointed hotel in a prime downtown location within walking distance of many restaurants and shopping. We needed to purchase several items we forgot to pack, as well as buy coats for our upcoming trip to Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city. We had no problem finding the items we needed at reasonable prices. Credit cards are accepted at almost all establishments.
The breakfast buffet is good, but it has a limited array of dishes. It was not one of my favorites. A greater variety would be beneficial for international travelers. Note that not all rooms include a complimentary breakfast, so make sure you check when making reservations. The fee for rooms that do not include breakfast is $19 USD per person.
On-site self-parking is available at $25.00 USD per day. Note that in/out privileges are not available.
No pets allowed, with the exception of service animals.
Airport shuttles are not available.
