Winters in Breckenridge are legendary, but there’s more to the Colorado mountain town than just skiing and snowboarding. Affectionately called Breck, outdoor enthusiasts in the know flock to the area during the summer to take advantage of long sunny days, and this year there’s a new hotel an easy walk from its bustling downtown.

Hello Hotel Alpenrock

Hotel Alpenrock Breckenridge, Curio Collection by Hilton, boasts a primo location just a five-minute walk from the QuickSilver Super6 and Beaver Run SuperChair. Those familiar with Breck may remember the location from years past as The DoubleTree by Hilton Breckenridge.

Accommodations

The hotel features 205 guest rooms, including 24 suites. A rarity in the hotel world, all rooms offer one or two king beds. The king bed only lodgings are said to be a nod to the town’s former nickname, “The Kingdom of Breckenridge.”

Even with a pair of king beds, my 2 King Bed Junior Suite on the fifth floor still offered a generous amount of space to spread out. In addition to an open closet package, multiple wall hooks to hang coats and assorted gear, and built-in space for open pieces of luggage, the room featured a sitting area with a cushy chair and a sofa that converts to yet another bed. At capacity, the room sleeps a whopping six people.

Although there was only a single sink, the bathroom vanity provided adequate space for two travelers; accommodating more guests would require a bit more juggling. In addition to a water closet, there was a walk-in shower and a free-standing bathtub. Toiletries are provided in refillable bottles.

Guests will find a small refrigerator in the room, but assorted mini-bar items available for purchase can make putting it to use a bit tricky. While there was a coffee machine with both coffee and tea pods, electric kettles were not available for guests seeking a coffee-free experience.

The small patio looking toward downtown was a pleasant spot to relax after days spent roaming in town. A screen door and a window with a screen made it easy to enjoy the fresh mountain air in the room.

Public Spaces and Facilities

Regardless of the season, a bulk of guests’ waking hours are spent out and about enjoying Breckenridge, as opposed to lounging at the hotel. Notable amenities include a fitness room featuring a trio of Peloton spin bikes and a pair of outdoor hot tubs on the fifth floor.

During the winter months, the list of perks increases to include a ski valet, heated storage for snow gear, and an on-site Breckenridge Sports retail and rental shop.

For kids and kids-at-heart, the “Magic Moose Hotline” can be dialed from all guestroom phones. After listening, families with young children can visit the hotel front desk to receive a fun souvenir.

Dining Options

There are a trio of dining options at Hotel Alpenrock. Edwin, the hotel’s signature restaurant, is open for breakfast and dinner. Start your day with choices such as Brioche French Toast, Blue River Avocado Toast, and a Garden Run Bowl with arugula, shaved carrot, roasted yams, hard-boiled egg, pickled red onion, cherry tomato, and avocado.

Edwin’s dinner menu is more varied. Think small plates such as a Hummus Trio and Breck Truffle Bites, as well as more than a half-dozen pizzas. Along with assorted salads, a smash burger, and a grilled chicken sandwich, the menu might feature a dry-aged ribeye, braised bison short ribs, and roasted whole trout.

Located in the hotel lobby, The Carter is a casual eatery and bar. In addition to some favorites from Edwin’s dinner menu, you might find dishes the likes of game meatballs, a bison patty melt, or a wedge salad. In addition to The Carter bar, cocktail enthusiasts can also visit Hotel Alpenrock’s speakeasy bar, Canary.

Also located in the hotel lobby, the Coffee Bar & Bistro offers a small menu of grab-and-go breakfast selections, including sandwiches and pastries, as well as coffee and tea.

It is a 102-mile drive from the property to Denver International Airport. Hotel Alpenrock is Curio Collection by Hilton’s first property at a major ski resort.
