Sunriver Resort: Same Time Next Year

"Sunriver Resort" "Lodge Village"
In the movie, Same Time, Next Year, two lovers meet at a coastal retreat in California. They both are married to other people but eventually fall in love with Northern California and one another.
Fortunately for me, my story is not based on falling in love with a married man, but in some ways it is similar. My husband and I fell in love with central Oregon and Sunriver Resort during our college years. Eventually we got married and raised our own family. When the kids moved out, we knew we had to keep one thing the same, our Sunriver vacation. We went back to the same place, the same time, every year, just like in the movie.

We’ve visited the resort during every season of the year. Usually our annual family vacation brings us to Central Oregon in August. I have decided this is the best time to visit for the types of activities our family enjoys. If you love winter sports, Mt. Bachelor is full of skiers and snowboarders and very close to the resort.

During the summer, again, my personal favorite time to visit, there are plenty of outdoor activities. Horseback riding, golf, biking, paddling the Deschutes River in a canoe or kayak and golf are just some of the activities offered at the resort. The Sage Springs Club Spa offers a fitness center and indoor pool.

If outdoor activities in the woods doesn’t sound very exciting, the Sunriver Homeowners Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) offers indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, water slides, a lazy river and children’s area. There is a daily fee for SHARC usage. If you’d rather not pay the fee, guests of the Lodge Village have complimentary access to an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub within easy walking distance.

Because of our consistent visits to Sunriver, we have stayed in almost every lodging offered. From cluster cabins to private rental homes in Caldera Springs, we’ve enjoyed all of our stays. Our most recent visit with our two adult children and dog had us at the pet-friendly Lodge Village suites. My husband and I had a large king room with a balcony ($221) while our children stayed in the two-story suite with a deck ($316) check the website for current pricing. Both rooms looked out to the grassy lawn.

Some families may appreciate the suites with two beds upstairs and a queen sleeper sofa downstairs. A kitchen, complete with a fridge, microwave, dishwasher and wifi are also part of the Lodge Village suites, in addition to a tv and fireplace.
