Hollywood, Florida, is all about beach days. The Diplomat Beach Resort makes it easy to get your dose of vitamin D and then some.
Room With a View
Rising 36 stories and featuring 1,000 rooms and suites, the beachfront hotel is huge. I spent a fall weekend in an Oceanfront View Balcony Room on the 19th floor with my grown daughter.
The room featured two double beds, a desk, and an oversized cushy chair, but the star of the show was the balcony with primo views of the beach, Atlantic Ocean, and seaside pool.
The bathroom offered a spacious vanity and single sink. Along with a shower, there was a separate bathtub. The water closet made it easier for two people to use the space and still have some privacy.
Along with a small refrigerator, rooms are equipped with a coffee maker. Electric tea kettles can be requested from the front desk.
Public Spaces & Amenities
The property was in the midst of a massive renovation during my stay; a temporary lobby was being utilized, one of the pools was closed, and some dining options were impacted.
The perk of a stay here is the proximity to the beach. It’s an easy walk to put your toes in the sand or surf, and lifeguards are on duty. The daily $45 resort fee covers beach chairs.
The beachfront pool boasts cabanas and a pair of hot tubs. All guests receive a wristband at check-in that’s required to access the pool area. In addition to a spa, there’s a neighboring 24-hour fitness center that offers group classes and private personal training.
Onsite Dining Options
Flanked by the beach and pool, Playa offers casual fare including nachos, chicken wings, tacos, and assorted sandwiches. The Hotel Bar was a buzz during my stay thanks to a Taylor Swift Takeover in honor of The Eras Tour coming to Miami.
Counter Point Café featured coffee, juices, and pastries, as well as breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The Canteen is a grab-and-go market with everything from pre-packaged sandwiches and pour-your-own coffee to wine, beer, and candy. No food service is offered anywhere in the hotel after 10 p.m., so be sure to plan accordingly.
