Oxford Hotel Denver – Renovated, Historic & Romantic

From its historic ambiance to its prime location near Denver’s Union Station in Lower Downtown, the Oxford Hotel Denver opened in 1891. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Oxford continues to be a long time favorite of locals and travelers.  This summer the Oxford debuted its new renovation and here is what you can expect.

Renovated, historic, and oh so romantic…the new and improved Oxford Hotel Denver continues to deliver to the modern needs of a traveler, yet embraces the elegant simplicity of history.  I admit — I am a sucker for elegant. And pampering. And historic hotels.

Uniquely combining elements of the past with today’s modern conveniences, The Oxford continues to provide guests with a comfortable and classic experience. Add in a random romantic weekend with my husband in Denver, and the Oxford wraps it up in a pretty package.

Earlier this summer Denver’s most historic hotel in the popular neighborhood of Lower Downtown (LoDo) celebrated its transformation. One of many in Denver, this major renovation included updating the hotel lobby and 80 guest rooms to a fresher design. Original antique pieces in the guest rooms are now complemented with modern, more contemporary pieces.

What I loved about this new design and colors is that it truly brightened (what I felt) was the darker corners of the hotel’s guest rooms. The antique pieces in the lobby are also brightened by the natural sunlight.

The Oxford Hotel is Denver’s most historic hotel located in the popular neighborhood of Lower Downtown, LoDo near Union Station. Managed by Sage Hospitality, the Oxford’s sister Denver properties include the nearby Crawford and the Maven, as well as the Curtis.

While the Brown Palace is the longest continuously operating hotel in Denver, the Oxford is actually the oldest hotel, as it opened in 1891, one year earlier. Its early history included time as a boarding house in the mid-century.

This hotel has stayed true to its historic past. It is still filled with exquisite historic details –  original tiles in the entry, intricate iron handrails, antique furniture throughout, western art, and (always our favorite), their prohibition-era Cruise Room Martini Bar.

Romantic Oxford Hotel Denver

Looking for a cozy and romantic Denver hotel? You’ve got that at the Oxford Hotel. Each of the 80 recently renovated guest rooms are individually decorated. We’re talking French and English antiques, floor-to-ceiling Chinese silk curtains, and be sure to request a room with a claw-foot bathtub.

And this will make your hubby happy — it did mine! The Oxford offers a Bourbon Bar, two evening daily times with one complimentary drink. This perk is included in the Destination Amenity Fee of $30 daily.

While not many are fans of these resort fees, the Oxford packs in a bunch of discounts and freebies including transportation, access to The Oxford Club, Spa & Salon and fitness classes, and bottled water in your room. In addition, one free breakfast per room at the trendy Urban Farmer adjacent to the hotel.

More romantic possibilities include a couples spa treatment at the Oxford Club spa. I’m a fan of their signature Almond Joy massage.

And if you or your hubby are truly a whiskey aficionados, the Oxford has partnered with Laws Whiskey House. Consider adding an authentic Colorado experience with a tour of Laws and a bottle of the exclusive Oxford 1891 Four Grain Bourbon.
