Retro Style at Seattle’s Inn at El Gaucho

The Inn at El Gaucho, a 17-room inn in Seattle’s trendy Belltown neighborhood, may have a retro look, but its amenities and quality are nothing short of modern. The inn, located in the heart of downtown Seattle, is a short walk to attractions like the Seattle Center, the waterfront, and Pike Place Market. With a “retro-swank” 1950s feel, it’s a quiet enclave with a unique style and a perfect location.

The inn’s sexy ambiance is apparent the moment you walk up the stairs from the ground-floor entrance to the inviting lobby. Leather banquettes, candles, and black and white photos of Hollywood stars set the mood, and complimentary coffee, cookies, and snacks help weary travelers immediately feel welcome. Come evening, the lobby is also the site of the hotel’s complimentary wine hour(s) from 5pm to 7pm each day.

Though the inn’s location means that all you have to do is step outside to have your choice of bars and restaurants, there’s the added convenience of an onsite restaurant, the acclaimed El Gaucho steakhouse,  as well as The Big Picture movie theatre. If seafood is more your taste, check out the romantic waterfront Aqua restaurant; it’s also owned by the El Gaucho group, for guests of the inn, the restaurant will send a special shuttle to deliver you to its door. Though the inn may not offer the big-ticket extras that a large hotel does, its great location, connection to El Gaucho restaurants, and special amenities mean you won’t find yourself longing for a chain hotel experience. Stepping upstairs feels like walking into a secret, exclusive club where, if it were only a few decades earlier, you’d find the likes of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe.

If you go: Check-in is at 3pm; check-out at is 11am. Early arrival and late check-out are available upon request.  The inn is smoke-free and pets are not allowed.  Valet parking is $35 per night plus tax. Book online with the hotel or through
