Hotel Diderot is a charming residence located in the medieval town of Chinon; the heart of France’s Loire Valley. This 15th century house is family run and someone is always on hand to make sure that your stay is pleasurable. A typical day sees the two sisters and Lauren – the brother- tending to the bar and offering advice on the regions wines: An excellent resource if you’re hoping to seek out some bargain priced local vineyards
The property offers traditional rooms in the main building or in the small annex, linked together by the beautifully maintained gardens. Each room is carefully decorated with period furnishings, pictures and flowers. With such attention to detail, combined with the intimacy of the small house and personalized service, you feel much more like a guest in a home, than just another anonymous hotel.
Breakfast at Diderot is a true delight, while not copious, fresh breads and pastries are accompanies by fresh coffee, local cheese and dozens of different types of jams- all home made on the premises. At Diderot breakfast becomes a challenge to sample the most unique (or sometimes bizarre) preserves, but always with pleasant results.
The property is perfectly located on a quiet street just minutes away from central Chinon, the River Vienne and is overlooked by Chinon Castle – where Joan of Arc begun her epic fight against the English during the 100 Years War. The town center also offers excellent restaurants, organized tours of the area, wine tasting and boat trips, as well as other activities to help you discover the region.
Single rooms are available from €46- €68 and doubles for €56 -€86. Breakfast costs €9 per person.
