On a narrow street of cafes, design and antique shops, and galleries in the centrally located Beyoglu district, the Hammamhane Hotel is a 23-unit apartment-style lodging that offers a dose of Istanbul cool.

I love staying in hotels that make you feel like you’re part of the local city life, and the loft-like suites at the Hammamhane Hotel, which are arrayed across three buildings, definitely offer you the chance to settle into urban Istanbul.
While guest rooms vary in size, most feel spacious, ranging from roughly 323 square feet to more than 535 square feet. Some have private balconies or terraces, and most have kitchenettes. The Patio Room is the most petite, measuring 237 square feet, but it opens onto a central courtyard.
I stayed in a roomy third-floor studio facing the street, furnished with a comfortable bed, a love seat, desk, and a tiny cafe table for two. Wi-fi worked well throughout the property.

The room’s kitchenette had an espresso machine, tea kettle, microwave, and fridge, as well as a washing machine (but no dryer); if you need to do a wash, you can purchase laundry soap from the front desk. The bathroom was compact with a small but modern shower.
The helpful reception staff speaks English, offers directions and local advice, and provides assistance with airport transfers. TIP: Hotel staff can arrange discounted transportation to or from the airport, the discount varying depending on the number of nights you stay.

Wake Up for Breakfast
I love breakfast in Turkiye, and the generous morning meal in the hotel’s main floor cafe was definitely worth waking up for. While not as lavish as the breakfast spread I had enjoyed at the Novotel during a previous Istanbul stay, breakfast at Hammamhane won’t leave you hungry.
After you help yourself at the buffet, which is stocked with two kinds of eggs, several salads, yogurt, fresh and dried fruit, and sweet and savory pastries, a server will bring you a breakfast tray laden with tomatoes, red peppers, cucumbers, olives, two kinds of cheese, two kinds of jam, and a bread basket filled with bread and simit. They’ll also serve you coffee or tea, as well as juice.

Make Time to Try the Hammam
Hammamhane Hotel guests are offered a discount at the adjacent Çukurcuma Hamamı 1831, a Turkish bath facility that has served the neighborhood since the early 1800s. If you’ve never tried this combination of vigorous massage and steam (or even if you have), this hammam is a good place to experience it.
And after your hammam experience, you can settle back into your urban Istanbul residence at the stylish Hammamhane Hotel.
