We headed to the Hyatt Regency Louisville, Kentucky as part of a wedding weekend. For anyone looking for a Louisville overnight near much to do, this hotel is a winner.

Hyatt Regency Louisville and Sway in Kentucky

A Lively Location in downtown Louisville

Next to Fourth Street Live, a major dining and entertainment destination of eateries, concerts, sports watch parties, and more, this is a prime location for going out. The Hyatt Regency is also within walking distance of Louisville’s “Museum Row.” There you’ll find the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, and one of my favorites, The Frazier Kentucky History Museum. If you want to know everything about bourbon, that museum is the place.

Frazier Kentucky History Museum, bourbon display

Part of the Spirit of Kentucky exhibit at the Frazier Kentucky History Museum showcases the more than 500 bottles of Bourbon brands currently distilled in Kentucky.

When we arrived at the Hyatt Regency, downtown Louisville was buzzing with action. So much action that the parking garage that serves the hotel only had valet parking available. Because the garage is also a downtown parking garage, self-parking spots can fill up. This is not always the situation. We circled the block and found a meter close by. There are also other parking garages and lots as well. The reception desk staff deftly checked us in despite the disgruntled guest who expressed unhappiness with not being able to self-park at the garage. The staff was so patient in her explanation of the parking situation despite his continued irritation.

The Hyatt Regency is Made for Mingling

While he complained, I noticed details about the Hyatt Regency’s stylish interior. Near the reception desk, there is fruit-infused water for guest use. The lobby with its glass elevator and escalator has an airiness, with each floor open to the atrium. Plenty of seating arrangements and contemporary furnishings are designed for guests to gather and mingle.

Hyatt Regency Louisville lobby

Here people can wait for others to join them for a night on the town or to head to Sway, the Hyatt Regency’s bar and restaurant. For us, the lobby was a place to easily connect with other people in town for the wedding. In a large hotel, having a convenient, comfortable place to wait for others is helpful.

Sway Offers Farm-to-Table Southern Cuisine, Bourbon and More

The bar in Sway, the first stop on Louisville's Urban Bourbon Trail

Sway which stands for “Southern Way” is the place grab southern cuisine inspired light bits or a meal and a bit of bourbon. If you’re on a bourbon kick, collect a stamp on Louisville’s Urban Bourbon Trail. With its wide bourbon selection, it’s no surprise this is the first stop on the trail, with several stops. The Frazier Kentucky History Museum is the first stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Order bourbon on the rocks, neat, or in a special cocktail. We left in the morning before the bar in Sway opened, but what a cool contemporary space to savor a drink.

Bourbon Bread Pudding at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville

We did enjoy the breakfast buffet, another Sway offering. I was thrilled to see Bourbon Bread Pudding as an item in the midst of crispy bacon, eggs, a robust fruit selection, grits and more. Lunch and dinner are also served.

Our King Guest Room

Our king room was a fine place to land after our drive to Louisville and before the wedding. There was plenty of space to store our belongings and set up the ironing board to smooth out wrinkles from a couple of shirts.

Hyatt Regency Louisville Guest Room with contemporary line drawing artwork of horses

Contemporary furniture with Scandinavian sensibilities includes an armchair, a couch, and a table. A sleek cabinet is a stylish answer for housing the glass-front mini-fridge and coffee maker with a selection of coffee and teas. USB charging ports on the nightstands and a large flat-screen TV are other guest room amenities. I was particularly pleased that each side of the bed had a nightstand and lamp.

The large abstract line drawing of horses on one wall fit in with the lines of the carpet, and the red of the couch is an accent piece to the neutral tones of the room’s decor.

Hyatt Regency Louisville, guest room bathroom

Like the rest of the room, the bathroom is sleek and modern. Contemporary art, neutral tones, plush towels, and upscale toiletries are part of this well-designed space.

Other Hyatt Regency Louisville Hotel Amenities

During our one-night stay, I didn’t check out the hotel’s indoor pool or the fitness center. For a quick coffee fix, there’s a Starbucks off the lobby. If you have a bicycle with you, the Hyatt Regency Louisville has bicycle storage. This gives guests easy access to the bike trail that leads from the hotel across the Ohio River and into Indiana. If you don’t have a bike but want some two-wheel action, the staff can point you towards bike rental spots close by.

We enjoyed the wedding rate. Rooms start at $179 on the Hyatt Regency Louisville’s website. Rooms with a city view are more. When you book through the website, you can add extras like Starbucks and breakfast.
