When I think back on my two-night stay at Wind Creek Chicago Southland, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t flashing slot machines or ringing jackpots. Instead, I remember walking out of one of the most relaxing massages I’ve ever had, sinking into an incredibly comfortable king-sized bed, and enjoying an unforgettable filet mignon while watching the evening skyline from a rooftop restaurant.
That’s probably not what most people expect from a casino resort.
Before visiting Wind Creek Chicago Southland, I assumed the casino would be the property’s main attraction. By the time my husband and I checked out two days later, I had discovered something entirely different. Yes, there’s an impressive casino, but there’s also a sophisticated luxury hotel, an exceptional spa, outstanding dining, and beautifully appointed guest rooms that make this property worth visiting even if you never place a single bet.
Located about 30 minutes from downtown Chicago in East Hazel Crest, Illinois, Wind Creek Chicago Southland has 255 hotel rooms and 43 luxury suites. Wind Creek Chicago Southland Hotel Overview

Walking through the front entrance immediately changed my expectations.
Instead of stepping directly into a noisy casino, I found myself in an elegant, open-concept space that felt polished enough to feel upscale but comfortable enough that I immediately relaxed. Ahead of me was a Food Bazaar, offering a variety of casual dining options. To my right was a convenience store stocked with snacks and travel essentials. Between the two was the entrance to the casino.
To the left, an escalator carried guests to the second-floor hotel lobby and meeting areas, creating a nice separation between the hotel and casino spaces. It was my first indication that Wind Creek Chicago Southland was designed to appeal to more than just gamers.
Everywhere I looked, the hotel still had that brand-new feel. The floors gleamed, the carpet was spotless, and the furniture showed almost no wear. Rather than the dark interiors I’ve seen in many casino resorts, this one felt bright, open, and inviting.
Rather than relying on dark interiors and overwhelming noise, Wind Creek embraces natural light, clean lines, and contemporary elegance.
The overall atmosphere struck me as classy, sophisticated, and surprisingly relaxing.
My Deluxe King Room

If the lobby impressed me, my Deluxe King Room exceeded every expectation.
Opening the door, I was greeted by a spacious room centered around a plush king-size bed that immediately invited me to kick off my shoes and relax. Across from the bed, floor-to-ceiling windows filled the room with natural light. They offered views overlooking the nearby parkway, green space, and the surrounding Chicago Southland landscape stretching into the distance.
The room felt much larger than I anticipated.
In addition to the comfortable bed, there were two upholstered chairs with a small table positioned beside the windows, creating a cozy sitting area. A generously sized work desk provided plenty of room for my laptop, making it easy to catch up on notes from our press trip.

After unpacking, I realized I wasn’t playing the usual game of figuring out where to stuff everything. Between the drawers, closet, and cabinet space, there was room for everything we brought.
A compact refrigerator kept drinks cold, while a dedicated coffee and tea drawer housed everything needed for a quick morning pick-me-up before heading downstairs.
Tech Features Add to the Stay

USB charging ports were conveniently located near the bed, the Smart TV offered plenty of entertainment options, and the automated lighting system was one of the most interesting features I encountered during my stay.
Like many newer luxury hotels, inserting the room key into a wall slot activated the room’s lighting. Remove the key, and the lights automatically shut off, an energy-saving feature for sure. But made for a humorous moment when I spent 10 minutes hunting my room key and then remembered it was in the slot keeping the lights on.
Blackout Curtains Were a Hit
I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels that advertise blackout curtains, only to wake up at sunrise because light found its way around the edges. These actually worked. Combined with the comfortable mattress and nearly perfect pillows, they made for two exceptionally restful nights.
In fact, the bed was so comfortable that getting up each morning required considerably more motivation than usual.

The bathroom continued the upscale experience.
The large walk-in shower immediately caught my attention, not only because of its elegant gold fixtures but because of the outstanding water pressure. After a long day of touring the property and exploring the Chicago Southland area, that shower felt absolutely wonderful.
I’m usually balancing a makeup bag somewhere around a tiny sink. Not here. I actually had room to spread everything out without knocking something onto the floor, and the oversized mirrors and excellent lighting made getting ready even easier.
Everything about the room reflected careful planning and quality craftsmanship.
Amenities That Elevate the Stay

During my stay, I spent time at the indoor pool and hot tub, browsed the gift shop, and explored much of the property with our press group.
One feature that genuinely fascinated me was the hotel’s elevator system.
At first, I stood there wondering where the buttons were.
There weren’t any.
Instead, I tapped my room key against the reader before entering. The system instantly recognized which floors I was authorized to visit, including my room on the tenth floor and the level housing ALTO Rooftop Restaurant. Once inside the elevator, there was nothing to press. The system simply knew where I was permitted to go.
It was one of those small technological details that quietly enhanced both convenience and security.
The only drawback I encountered during my stay involved parking.
Although the hotel offers a connected parking garage, reaching your vehicle requires taking one elevator to the main floor, walking to the garage entrance, and then using a separate elevator to reach your parking level. It’s certainly manageable, but after a long day, it felt like a bit more walking than I expected.
Fortunately, that minor inconvenience was far outweighed by everything else the property had to offer.
My Favorite Escape: Spa at Wind Creek

Of everything I experienced during my stay, nothing stands out more vividly than my visit to the spa.
If you had asked me before arriving what I expected to remember most about a casino resort, I certainly wouldn’t have said, “the massage.”
Yet that’s exactly what happened.
I booked a Wind Creek Signature Massage, a personalized treatment designed to address each guest’s individual stress points and areas of tension. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all routine, my therapist customized the experience based on my specific needs, making it feel far more personal than many spa treatments I’ve received elsewhere.
By the end of the session, I felt every ounce of stress melt away.
The massage itself was wonderful, but the spa experience didn’t end there.
I spent time unwinding in the peaceful relaxation room before exploring the spa’s shower circuit and soaking in the hot tub. The atmosphere encouraged guests to slow down, breathe deeply, and enjoy the moment.
Walking back into the hotel afterward, I almost forgot I was staying inside one of the Midwest’s premier casino resorts.
That hour or two of complete relaxation became my favorite memory of the entire trip.

Here’s my confession.
During my two-night stay at Wind Creek Chicago Southland, I never played a single slot machine or sat down at a gaming table.
Yet I still found the casino fascinating.
Our press group received a behind-the-scenes tour that gave us a greater appreciation for the property’s size and thoughtful design. I expected loud music and sensory overload. Instead, I noticed how much space there was between gaming areas. Even walking through, it never felt chaotic. The casino offers over 70,000 square feet of gaming space with over 1,400 slot machines, plus 56 gaming tables.
What impressed me most wasn’t necessarily the gaming itself. It was the way the casino caters to different types of guests.
Private gaming areas provide a more exclusive experience for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere, while spacious gathering areas allow sports fans to watch their favorite teams in comfort. The layout feels intentional, giving guests room to spread out rather than crowding everyone into one space.
Even as someone who doesn’t gamble, I enjoyed learning about the casino and seeing how seamlessly it integrates into the overall resort. Unlike some casino properties where the hotel seems secondary, Wind Creek Chicago Southland treats every part of the guest experience as equally important.
That balance is one of the things that sets it apart.
Dinner at ALTO Steakhouse at Wind Creek Chicago Southland

If the spa was my favorite experience, dinner at ALTO Steakhouse was a very close second.
Located on the upper level of the hotel, ALTO combines sophisticated décor, attentive service, and panoramic views into an elevated dining experience that feels worthy of a special occasion.
As our group settled into our table, I immediately found myself drawn to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Watching the evening light stretch across the Chicago Southland landscape created a beautiful backdrop for dinner.

Great Service and Delicious Food
Our water glasses never seemed to stay empty, and each course arrived at just the right pace.
Before our entrées even arrived, the chef surprised us with a variety of beautifully prepared appetizers that showcased the restaurant’s culinary creativity. Each dish offered something different, setting the stage for what would become one of the best meals of our trip.
When my filet mignon arrived, it was cooked exactly the way I requested. Every bite reminded me why filet is still my favorite cut.
As wonderful as the steak was, I have to admit the unexpected star of the meal was the Brussels sprouts.
Brussels sprouts rarely steal the spotlight.
These did.
Perfectly caramelized with just the right balance of sweetness and savory flavor, they were one of those side dishes that had everyone at the table talking. Even now, months later, they’re one of the first things I remember about dinner.
The desserts were scrumptious as well. The table ordered a variety, and we each had a taste of the desserts we wanted to try. The chocolate peanut butter dessert above was my favorite.
Between the exceptional food, polished service, and spectacular views, ALTO delivers the kind of dining experience that encourages you to linger a little longer over dessert or another cup of coffee.
It’s not simply a hotel restaurant.
It’s a destination in its own right.

When friends hear I stayed at a casino resort, one of the first questions they ask is whether I gambled.
The answer always surprises them.
“No.”
Not once.
And honestly, I never felt like I missed anything.
Instead, I spent my time enjoying the spacious accommodations, relaxing at the spa, dining at one of the area’s premier restaurants, exploring the property, and simply appreciating the luxurious atmosphere.
That’s what makes Wind Creek Chicago Southland different from many casino resorts I’ve visited.

The casino may draw many visitors through the doors, but it isn’t the only reason to stay here.
Couples looking for a romantic weekend, girlfriends planning a spa getaway, food lovers seeking an outstanding meal, or travelers exploring Chicago Southland could all enjoy this property without spending a single dollar on gaming.
Of course, if gambling is part of your vacation plans, you’ll find plenty of opportunities.
If it isn’t, you’ll still discover a luxury hotel that easily stands on its own merits.
