Multiple pools, lavish breakfast choices, warm staff, and a lovely room. I was more than pleased with the Wintree City Resort in Chiang Mai, in the north of Thailand. Plus, this hotel was a quick walk or five-minute drive to Nimmanhaemin Road and Maya Shopping Mall for great retail, entertainment, and dining.

There are other hotels outside the city, but Wintree City Resort Chiang Mai is a great choice if you want to be in the heart of the urban action. In the Land of Smiles, there is something for everyone.

When we pulled into the 168-room  Wintree City Resort Chiang Mai, located on busy Lampang  Road, I wasn’t sure what to expect. My husband and I were with a small group touring Thailand, and we had driven from Chiang Rai that afternoon. We were hot, tired, and hungry.

An airy, high-ceilinged lobby with bright modern décor put our concerns to rest. This four-star hotel promotes itself as a compact urban resort, and that’s exactly the vibe we encountered.

After collecting our room key, we walked past the restaurant’s lovely outdoor terrace and into an open courtyard. Three long, narrow swimming pools were flanked by low-rise hotel buildings. Ours was near the third pool.

Wintree City Resort’s Rooms are Fresh and Bright

Unlocking our room’s door, we were met with fresh contemporary furnishings, and I immediately felt at home.  Our room was a 345-square-foot Superior King and the view was of the city.

The most intriguing thing about the space was the glassed-in bathroom. Not only was the shower a walk-in glassed affair, but the entire bathroom was enclosed in glass. Yikes, I thought, not much privacy. But then I noticed a full-length curtain that, once pulled, provided an adequate screen.

The room had a flat-screen TV, mini fridge, coffee/tea maker, and free Wi-Fi.  In addition, a desk with a lamp and electrical outlets was a good setup for my laptop. Plus, an upholstered chair by the bed made for a comfy reading nook.

A Variety of Room Configurations Available

Checking at the front desk, I learned you could also request a Superior room with twin beds. The Deluxe rooms were a little bigger at 375 square feet and had a King or Twin bed option. As well, the Premier rooms, both Twin and King, were around 420 square feet and came with bathtubs, garden and pool views, plus a full-sized desk. Other room configurations were a Superior Triple room with three single beds.

Need more room?  The Duplex Suites came with sliding doors to a small terrace overlooking the pool. On two floors, they featured a living area with a couch and a staircase up to the King bedroom and bathroom. The Duplex Suite Family was similar but could accommodate four people.

Enjoy the Best Breakfast Plus Other Meals

Some folks in our group stopped into the restaurant for a late lunch and were pleased with a North American-style club sandwich, not always easy to find in Thailand.

I waited until the next morning to try the restaurant.

Breakfast at the Wintree City Resort in Chiang Mai had me smiling. The buffet featured a multitude of Thai, Chinese, and Western dishes. At the egg station, you could order omelets and shakshuka, a delicious tomato egg concoction. Plus, salads were plentiful.

A lavish breakfast buffet is included every morning at the Wintree City Resort Chiang Mai.

Bowls of fresh fruit graced one counter while a myriad of hot rice dishes lined one wall. A bread and pastries station also had croissants and muffins. Freshly squeezed fruit juices were available. In addition, a self-serve coffee machine whipping up lattes and espresso was a high point for me.

The hostess informed me that, in addition to breakfast and lunch, the restaurant was open for dinner.

Sweet Pool Lounging at the Wintree City Resort

That afternoon was all about R&R. My husband and I were at the third pool, and the only ones there.

There are three pools to choose from at the Wintree City Resort Chiang Mai.

The middle pool had a shallow area at one end. A few kids bopped about with floaty toys while their moms watched.

The first pool was the site of an impromptu photo session. Posing in fairy costumes, guests were getting warmed up for a cosplay-themed party in the hotel’s event space that night. A few Dungeons and Dragons dudes popped in and made for great people-watching.

Time to flex a few muscles? Another amenity at the Wintree City Resort Chiang Mai was the small but fully equipped fitness center. It had free weights, a treadmill, an elliptical machine, and a stationary bike.

The cosplay party, I was told by the front desk clerk, was in the convention hall upstairs in the main building. Although the event was attended by around 50 people, the 5,000-square-foot space could accommodate up to 450 guests and was used for meetings, conferences, and weddings as well as parties.
