Less than 10 minutes from Capitol Reef National Park, Skyview Hotel offers a fun twist on traditional hotel stays when visiting Utah’s “Mighty 5.” Offering more than just a place to sleep, this boutique hotel offers a one-of-a-kind visual respite that pays homage to its striking backyard.
Skyview Hotel is located in the gateway town of Torrey. It offers 14 rooms and 6 glamping domes. Rooms are located to the right of the lobby, while the glamping domes are positioned to the left.
All rooms are accessed by an outdoor corridor that does double duty as an art installation. Ropes hanging from above are meant to mimic what it feels like when walking through a slot canyon. I found it hard to walk through without smiling.
Skyview Hotel Guest Rooms
I stayed in room 7, which is considered an Essential Double Queen room. Large sliding glass doors on the exterior wall let in copious amounts of natural light and views of the red rock cliffs. But the room itself offers plenty to look at as well. The art installation on the wall alongside one of the beds is inspired by the Temples of the Sun and Moon in Capitol Reef National Park. It was designed by Skyview’s co-owner Nicholas Derrick.
Headboards are made of felt tiles that climb up the wall and onto the ceiling. Along with giving night sky vibes, the tiles dampen noise. The tiles are reportedly made out of 60% recycled PET plastic; each tile is the equivalent of four plastic water bottles.

Other lovely touches include lush green plants, a spacious, counter-height mini-refrigerator, microwave, and two ways to make coffee. Along with a Keurig machine, there’s a French press and an electric kettle to brew an exclusive Skyview Breakfast Blend made by nearby Shooke Coffee Roasters.
Rooms are also stocked with a nice assortment of mostly local snacks. Think everything from chips and pretzels to chocolate chip cookies, toffee truffles, and honey caramels. The refrigerator also contains a selection of soft drinks and water in reusable Yeti water bottles.
The bathroom was compact with a shower and a bathtub combination. I was traveling solo, so I didn’t have any issues, but the vanity space is notably limited.
If you’re in the mood to splurge, some rooms feature hot tubs on their patios.
Skyview Hotel Glamping Domes
The hotel’s half-dozen glamping domes offer a camp-like experience with a comfy bed to fall into at night. All domes have private bathrooms, but they are not connected to the domes. The bathrooms are approximately 150 feet from the domes—about a three- to five- minute walk. They’re on the list for my next visit.
Public Spaces and Facilities
The fire pit is a scenic spot to swap stories with other travelers about days spent in the park.
The night skies didn’t cooperate during my stay, but Torrey is an accredited International Dark Sky Community. Skyview Hotel’s rooftop terrace offers a great spot to stare off into the sky, day or night.
Dining Options
There is no on-site restaurant. Breakfast boxes prepared by nearby Shooke Coffee Roasters are available for purchase. Expect a slice of quiche (warm it for 30-45 seconds in the microwave), pastry, yogurt, and a piece of whole fruit.
Staff are happy to share specifics about their favorite local eateries. Cider and mead fans will want to save time for a stop at Etta Place Cidery. Owners Ann and Robert farm 500 apple trees (including 100 varieties) at their nearby orchard.

The front desk is staffed from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (In cases of emergency, there is an after-hours phone number for guests to call.)
Skyview Hotel features an Accessible King room designed for guests with mobility disabilities.

Skyview Hotel is dog-friendly. There is a one-time non-refundable $65 fee. Ten percent of the fee goes to support Color Country Animal Welfare, a local nonprofit. Dog beds, bowls, and treats are available upon request.
