Whether you’re heading to San Diego to visit LEGOLAND and the San Diego Zoo or you’re just looking for some time in the California sun on a work trip, the Sheraton San Diego Resort is the ideal home base. It’s just minutes from the San Diego Airport, and the complimentary airport shuttle makes it easy to get to your vacation destination with ease.

I visited with my teenage daughter, and we got to stay in the brand-new mermaid room, where shimmery pinks, purples, and blues transform a traditional double-queen room into your undersea oasis. It’s the perfect spot to celebrate a special birthday or just immerse yourself in the water vibes of this waterfront resort. Think: mermaid tail towels, floaties, eye masks, and jewelry waiting for you to get decked out in style. The room is located in a quieter part of the resort with views of the marina. For those who prefer the swashbuckling life, next door is the decked-out pirate-themed room.

The resort is divided into the Marina Tower (where we stayed) and the Bay View Tower. The latter is the ideal spot to watch the summer fireworks from your private balcony. You’ll find kid-friendly swimming pools at both towers, and the Marina Tower also has an adults-only pool. Book a cabana or reserve a lounge chair and spend your day in comfort.
Beyond standard hotel rooms, the Sheraton San Diego Resort offers a variety of suites and adjoining rooms to accommodate families. Whether your room faces the marina or the skyline, you’ll have a balcony to enjoy some private outdoor space, a mini fridge, and a coffee maker.

The Sheraton San Diego Resort is ready to keep you as busy as you want to be with daily activities that range from s’mores at the fire pits to floating sound bath experiences. Live music and trivia will keep you entertained at the on-site restaurants. Guests can borrow the resort’s e-bikes with their first hour free. The same is true for kayak rentals from the watersports cabana. You can take one out on the water for an hour free, or increase your speed with a Jet-Ski rental for an additional fee. There are even whale watching cruises that leave right from the marina.

Just below the lobby is the fitness room, where you can keep up your Peloton streak or strength-training regimen. Just outside is where you’ll find the e-bikes.

Dining at the Sheraton San Diego Resort
You won’t have to leave the property to enjoy some local eats during your San Diego stay. The marina tower features four dining options including the sports bar Brewery X where the menu ranges from brick-oven pizza and burgers to wings and roasted cauliflower.
Right across the lobby is Rumarosa, where authentic Baja dishes such as aguachiles, tortas, and tacos make up the menu. We enjoyed dinner there, which started with guacamole and ended with tortilla soup and a tuna tostada. While we were dining, we could see a lively group enjoying a paint-and-sip event in an adjoining room, while a guitarist serenaded us. If you’re there for breakfast, the Baja breakfast sandwich served on a traditional concha is not to be missed.
If you need to head out to an early-morning flight or prefer a grab-and-go option, Strada Italian Market is located right next to Rumarosa. In addition to lattes and breakfast burritos, the market serves up pizza, gelato, and plenty of snacks for your beach day. Those planning to spend the day at the marina pool can take advantage of the Sunglow Cabana Bar, which features shareable plates and fruity drinks. The Bay View Tower also has its own restaurant, Shorelight, which serves up Italian and American favorites with stunning views.
