Quebec’s Chateau Bromont: Go for the Skiing and Savory Fare

Reception at Chateau Bromont.

Located in Quebec’s magical Eastern Townships, Chateau Bromont is a winter winner. Located at the foot of Mount Brome, the 166-room hotel has easy access to the slopes. Plus, it offers amenities, including outdoor hot tubs, an indoor pool, and a restaurant with a menu that is chock full of local, artisanal items.

I love the Eastern Townships for its many charming villages, wild forest spaces, and delicious foods. The duck, fois gras, and cheese produced here are out of this world. Plus, some of the spa inns are outstanding.

But we were there primarily for the mountain. That’s why we chose Chateau Bromont for a long weekend getaway from Toronto.

A Variety of Rooms and Suites at Chateau Bromont

I was delighted with the Distinctive Suite. A spiral staircase led to the mezzanine level with a Queen bed and the floor level had a King bed. There was a mini-fridge and a Nespresso coffee machine to get us going in the morning. We had an exterior view room and could see the ski runs. The interior view looked out on the hotel atrium and swimming pool.

A more basic option is the Comfort rooms. These have a Queen bed, two Queen beds, or a Queen bed and a sofa bed. Some had wood fireplaces.

You can also step it up a notch with a Deluxe room. This has a King bed and sofa bed, a balcony, and a lounge area with a wood fireplace that operates from November to the beginning of April.

Other options include Executive suites with a King bed and sofa bed. They have a mezzanine level, balcony, and lounge area with a wood fireplace.

Chateau Bromont is dog-friendly, you just need to let them know when you make your booking that Fido is coming with you.

Sample the Mouth-watering Artisanal Products

For dinner, we headed to the hotel’s 4 Ducks Restaurant. The charcuterie board was filled with locally produced meats and cheeses. We paired these delicacies with delicious wines from the well-stocked wine cellar. Main dishes included lamb shank with creamy polenta, duck with apple butter and Calvados, fish of the day, and a veal chop with morels. The stand-out dessert was homemade profiteroles with hot chocolate sauce.

A flavorful breakfast was also served in the 4 Ducks Restaurant. We came downstairs the next morning to find a buffet of meats, cheeses, fruit, pastries, and a wide selection of hot egg dishes.

Although we didn’t try it, lunch was available at the hotel’s bistro bar called the Beagle Club with a daily fixed-price special with soup, main plate, and coffee.

Skiing and Apres Ski at Chateau Bromont

I found the hotel to be very comfortable and cozy. The terrace had four hot tubs where you could soak after a day swooshing down the ski hills. The indoor pool was open from 9 a.m. to 9  p.m. In summer, there’s also an outdoor pool with a furnished patio.

To care for sore muscles, we were glad to find an Amerispa health and beauty center on site. It offered a Thermal experience Hamam with a steam bath, hydromassage stations, and even a submerged bike. You could combine this with other menu selections including manicures, pedicures, and massages.

For workouts, a small training room was available with a treadmill, stationary bike, free weights, and other machines. But, we wanted to stretch our legs outside instead. An obliging clerk at the front desk directed us to 25 kilometers of walking trails between the village and wooded areas.

The skiers in our group loved the proximity to the mountain. The 450-acre ski area covered several slopes and offered 141 trails for all levels. There was even night skiing on 101 trails.

Warm Weather Activities in the Area

Summer is also a big draw at the hotel, with Golf Chateau Bromont. The course is at the foot of Mont Brome and offers club rentals as well as lessons with a certified PGA professional. In addition, there are practice areas and a driving range.

Another popular warm-weather activity in the area is cycling. Enthusiasts flock to the Bromont National Cycling Center. For water babies, attractions include Bromont Water Park, the Amazoo Water Park, and the municipal beach of Lac Bromont.

There’s lots of good eating and drinking to be had as well. Some of the best places to experience local products are on the Brome-Missisquoi Wine Route and, in summer and fall, the Bromont public market. Plus, folks with a sweet tooth can’t miss the Chocolate Museum with its on-site café for breakfast and lunch.
