Pet-friendly Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bend South

There are plenty of hotels in all-season Bend, Oregon. When it comes down to it, most people are looking for value, location, and cleanliness in a hotel stay. For business or leisure guests, check out my pet-friendly Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bend South review.

Four-story Holiday Inn Express with beige, brown and terracotta red block-style coloring. Portes-cochère driveway in front of hotel entrance. It is March and snow is still visible by hotel front entrance.

Opened in March of 2020, this Holiday Inn Express Bend South hotel is a dog-friendly property. If that’s important to you, you might want to see if this hotel is offering the Pet Getaway package.

The 3-star Holiday Inn Express hotel is located off Highway 97 in south Bend. We typically stay in northwest Bend, so this was a new part of the city for us to explore. I liked the fact that this Holiday Inn Express was a relatively new build. The staff was friendly, the indoor pool was clean, and there was plenty of free parking.

Safeway was within walking distance of the hotel, but there were not a lot of restaurants nearby.  However, if you want a hotel within walking distance of downtown Bend, consider the more expensive Newberry Hotel. The southwest side of Bend also offers fairly new hotels.

Hotel lobby has blue, beige and black carpet in a paint brush style pattern. Two olive green chairs are in the hotel lobby next to a mounted, flat-screen tv. A modular chocolate brown leather and beige cloth banquette sofa separate the lobby from the breakfast dining area. Four different pieces of framed art are on the white walls.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bend South rooms

The four-story, 109-room hotel offers nine 2-queen bed suites, nine 1-king bed suites, and 91 standard rooms. As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m an IHG platinum elite member. My IHG status rewarded me with a room category upgrade, if available, upon check-in. To my delight, I was upgraded to a king suite on the 4th floor, room #422.

Our hotel room was near the elevator bank; however, it was a quiet location. Our room looked out to one of the many roundabouts, a traffic calming measure, used often in the pedestrian-friendly community.

The room included a walk-in shower with Dove bath amenities. We had a closet with an in-room safe, ironing board, and hairdryer.

The suite included a sofa bed, chair, and coffee table, mini fridge, desk, work lamp, and chair, flatscreen TV, and Keurig coffee maker. As I am a frequent Holiday Inn Express guest, I’ve grown fond of the soft and firm pillow choices. I’m team soft pillow.

Across from bed and next to picture window is a work desk, chair and desk lamp. A laminated wood dresser is attached to the work desk. Flat screen tv is anchored on wall.

Amenities at Holiday Inn Express Bend South

The pet-friendly Holiday Inn Express Bend South hotel had an indoor pool and a small fitness room. As with most hotels, there was no lifeguard on duty. Swimming pool hours were 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. There was also a gym area with several treadmills and a weight area.

One of my favorite amenities, breaking from brand standards, was the complimentary cookie station next to the water station. Hat tip to the hard-working breakfast crew who baked the cookies each morning. On our visit, we enjoyed sugar cookies and oatmeal raisin cookies.

Holiday Inn Express Bend South breakfast

A hot breakfast was complimentary at this Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel. Most Holiday Inn Express hotels offer cookie-cutter breakfasts. The Holiday Inn Express Bend goes above and beyond with its breakfast offerings. In addition to the standard scrambled eggs, cinnamon rolls, pancake machine, English muffins, bagels, and blueberry muffins, there were several hot breakfast rotating options.

One morning, egg white and veggie omelets were offered, in addition to pork sausage and turkey sausage. The next day featured scrambled eggs and bacon, along with biscuits and sausage gravy. This was in addition to gluten-free bread, apples, bananas, several types of yogurts, hard-boiled egg 2-packs, and almond milk. I still prefer to visit Sparrow Bakery for their signature Ocean Roll, but the Express Start Breakfast was free and fresh.

Room rates at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bend South offered dynamic pricing. IHG and AAA rates were offered. On our visit, rates started at $99 but reached higher during special events in town. The pet-friendly Holiday Inn Express charged $30, plus tax, per night for dogs.

Check rates online at Expedia, Booking.com, or Hotels.com.

There was no charge for self-parking. The hotel does not offer shuttle service to Redmond Airport. Check-in time was 4:00 p.m. with noon check-out.
