When it comes to choosing a property in Amsterdam, you’ll want to select a hotel that is centrally located to make walking and exploring easy. The lively neighborhood surrounding the NH Collection Amsterdam Flower Market makes it a fun home base when exploring this capital city.

NH Flower Market, Amsterdam

As soon as I entered my gorgeous corner junior suite and threw open the blinds, I saw the famous floating flower market for which the property is named. The flower theme is carried throughout the property’s decor, making for a colorful welcome after a long day of travel.

Location

The property is just a 30-minute taxi ride from Schiphol Airport, but you can easily take the train to Amsterdam Central Station, and then hop on the 2, 11, or 12 tram to the Koningsplein stop. Just a short walk along the flower market and you’ll be at the property.

Restaurants, a movie theater, and a mini-mart are within blocks of the NH Collection Amsterdam Flower Market, making it an easy option when you want to pop out and see the sights. Despite the busy location, I had no issue with noise in my room during my stay. Additionally, I visited on a solo trip to Amsterdam, and felt safe walking around at night on my own.

Public Spaces

You enter the hotel’s colorful lobby, where helpful staff are available to greet you and provide recommendations on things to do and how to get there. Here, you’ll also find couches and some bar-height seating, plus a snack table with fruity water and a selection of candies that are changed up each day. If it’s raining during your visit, borrow an umbrella from the self-service stand here.

Upstairs from the lobby is a small exercise room, more seating areas, and a large room where the buffet breakfast is served.

Room Features

The 4-star property was built in 1928, so you won’t find the boxy rooms of modern-day properties. With 233 rooms spread across eight floors, you’ll have plenty of choices, from suites with balconies to large family rooms.

While the property’s exterior reflects a time past, the rooms are elegantly sophisticated, with all the modern touches a traveler needs. I loved all of the windows in my junior suite, especially the large ones that looked out over the rooftops of Amsterdam from the soaking tub in my bathroom. I’m not particularly a bath person, but this bath definitely got used during my visit.

Both the air conditioning and WiFi were strong. You can enjoy a cup of espresso from your in-room Nespresso machine or a cold beverage from the minibar. I can be a bit of a pillow snob, but I was thrilled to find a selection of pillows that suited my needs quite nicely.

Most rooms accommodate up to three guests, with one on the pull-out sofa. Families visiting with kids can take advantage of the family quadruple room, which features a double bed, two twin beds, and ample space to spread out.

Housekeeping is available daily. During my stay, guests who chose to forego housekeeping for one day were offered a complimentary drink to enjoy at the restaurant on the first floor.

Food and Dining

One of my favorite things about visiting new properties in Europe is checking out the breakfast buffet, and the NH Collection Amsterdam Flower Market did not disappoint. You have plenty of choices, from fruit juices and croissants to bacon and scrambled eggs. If you want a hot dish, such as an omelet, it is available to order from the restaurant staff.

For lunch and dinner, head down to street level where you’ll find Ter Marsch & Co Amsterdam. This Instagram-worthy spot is covered in flowers and serves up inventive cocktails along with burgers, salads, and even Dutch bitterbalen.

Things Nearby

The NH Collection Amsterdam Flower Market boasts an excellent location for exploring the city’s diverse neighborhoods. I could get to pretty much any area of the city with just a 20-minute walk or a quick hop on the tram.

I used the iAmsterdam City Card to access public transportation, visit museums, and enjoy a canal ride. It offers significant value for visitors and is easy to use through the app.

Here are a few of my favorite things to check out nearby:

  • Walk along the floating Flower Market and find a café along the canal to sit and enjoy the boats passing by.
  • Visit the Mouse Mansion to take in the tiny vignettes featuring the characters from the Mouse Mansion books.
  • Head to Dam Square and join one of the free walking tours from FreeDam Tours.
  • Visit the Anne Frank House. (Note: You must reserve your tickets in advance as they often sell out.)
