Walking into Lamartine’s lobby, you’ll see an oversized bouquet of dried flowers in a large vase between two rough-hewn wooden chairs. The minimalist, neutral-toned style of this tiny seating area is a precursor to the vibe you will find throughout the hotel. Clean lines, beiges, whites, and greys, and an efficiency to the spaces that make them almost Norwegian in style.
Rooms range from 30 to 45 square meters. Larger categories include outdoor balconies with city views as well as luxurious stone bathtubs and larger sitting areas. All those elements help to give the space a more expansive feel, and an upgrade to a larger room is a must.
I stayed in the smallest size room, 30 square meters, and even with windows that let in light from the interior air shaft where dozens of lovely plants and vines cascade down its center, the room felt a little claustrophobic.
The bed was very comfortable, with quality linens and pillows, and the lighting was subtle and helpful. Spotlights illuminate the undersides of both sides of the bed for getting in and out in the dark, and singular pen lights sit above the bed for reading or watching television without a blaring overhead light.
Upstairs on the third floor is the hotel’s tiny gym with a stationary bike and a set of weights with a weight bench. Just beyond it is the communal outdoor patio with a small cluster of tables and chairs for enjoying some fresh air if you are in a room without a balcony.
On the first floor beside the lobby is Gramo, a minute coffee shop that makes a very good cup of coffee from Costa Rica, Colombia, and Mexico. The blend you will find in your room for the morning to be used in the pour-over Chemex is a blend of Veracruz and Colombia, and it’s delicious.
In the same downstairs space is the Laguna Cyprien perfume shop, whose luxurious blends of essential oils can be mixed into hand soaps and body lotions by request. Their products are found in the hotel rooms’ bathrooms and in the candles in the main sleeping areas.
Pistachios are provided for a small snack, along with several different types of bottled water (mineral and still) and Felix sodas — a local Mexican brand which is refreshing without being overly sweet. Rooms also have large, flat-screen TVs, robes, and free Wi-fi. All room rates include a small to-go breakfast down in the lobby – coffee, yogurt, sweet bread, and some bagel sandwiches,
The hotel’s location in the heart of Polanco is great for exploring the neighborhood and all its delightful shopping and eating.
Malix, a Michelin-guide restaurant that uses local ingredients in delicious, contemporary ways, is just a five-minute walk from the hotel, but that’s definitely not the only place to dine. There is no shortage of great restaurants in this part of town, including two of Mexico City‘s most famous locations — Pujol and Quintonil.

At this location, so close and walkable to all of Polanco’s attractions, the hotel’s price point (from 274 to 583usd depending on the room and the season) is one of its greatest attractions. Most Polanco hotels will run you 300usd or more a night, and many are upwards of 1,000 a night. Definitely go for the upgrade for a larger, more comfortable room.
