The Ironworks Hotel in Beloit, WI, anchors the powerhouse Geronimo Hospitality Group, owned by self-made billionaire Diane Hendricks (Forbes’s top female entrepreneur in 2018). Staying here unlocks more than a room—you gain access to the historic Beloit Club’s pool and tennis courts, plus a culinary playground of exceptional restaurants and entertainment venues—all walkable from your riverfront door.

The Industrial Backstory: Merrill & Houston’s Legacy

Opened in 2014, Ironworks Hotel pays homage to Beloit’s manufacturing heyday through founders Merrill & Houston, 1859 ironworks pioneers whose water-powered forges lined the Rock River. The hotel transforms its gritty legacy into refined luxury. This hotel delivers upscale boutique vibes with an industrial era, giving a nod to the ironworks factory that was prominent at the turn of the last century.

The Rooms: Comfort Meets Craftsmanship

The rooms at the Ironworks Hotel are huge. My fourth-floor room had factory-style windows framing the Rock River. The King River View Suite had a separate sitting area with a full-size leather sofa and a large 55-inch TV. There was an expansive workspace with plenty of outlets, a Nespresso coffee station + mini fridge stocked with local cheese (it is Wisconsin, after all), craft beers, and Rock River spring water.

There was a standalone soaker tub with a view of the second TV, as well as a large marble rain shower that rivalled upscale spas!

The custom platform bed had 500-thread-count linens, plush towels, and blackout shades.

Fitness Facilities: Flexible Options for Active Travelers

The Fitness Centre is located on the lower level with 24/7 access. It has cardio machines and free weights in a secure, compact space—perfect for quick morning circuits. No frills, all function.

If you are looking for more, you can get passes from the front desk for complimentary day passes to the Downtown Beloit YMCA (a short walk across the Rock River). With an expansive gym, a pool, group classes, and a full equipment lineup, far beyond the hotel standard.

Guests also have Beloit Club privileges: enjoying reciprocal membership to this golf and country club with full access to the outdoor pool (seasonal), Har-Tru tennis courts, fitness centre, locker rooms, and clubhouse dining. Although there might be a nominal fee for a day pass, it is worth it. We spent a quiet afternoon by the pool, enjoying snacks and a well-deserved rest after our whirlwind TBEX conference in Eau Claire.

A Plethora of Dining Options

If you’ve worked up an appetite, the Geronimo Hospitality Group has quite a plethora of dining options.

  • Blue Collar Coffee Co.: Ruby Coffee Roasters espresso, breakfast/lunch, and Sunday brunch. Quick pick-me-up coffee before exploring the city and the nearby farmer’s market (on Saturdays)
  • truk’t (5 min. walk) Street tacos, mezcal cocktails, and boozy brunch skillets. Vibrant weekend energy, open late. Walked in after the baseball game at ABC Supply Stadium and ordered a variety of tacos to go! Great late-night choice.
  • Lucy’s #7 Burger Bar: Wisconsin smash burgers + local brews. Juicy, cheesy bliss—worth every bite! I loved it.
  • Merrill & Houston’s Steak Joint: Located in the hotel, this steakhouse offers prime steaks, seafood, and fine wine. My aged ribeye with truffle butter and gouda mac ‘n cheese was perfect. You can also have some pretty delicious cocktails. Breakfast is à la carte.

Overall Recommendation

If you are a couple seeking a getaway from Chicago or Wausau, foodies chasing a steakhouse meal, or mature travelers who want walkability without big-city bustle, this is the boutique hotel for you.

Check rates for Ironworks Hotel Beloit online at Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda, or Hotels.com.

The Ironworks Hotel elevates Beloit from “flyover” to “destination.” With a minor league baseball team, great shops, and a fun farmers’ market, there is plenty to see and do in the area. Book a river view—you’ll want those sunrise coffee moments!

Disclosure: I was a guest of Visit Beloit and the Geronimo Hospitality Group on a post-conference fam tour. All opinions are my own.
