I confess that I review a lot of hotels. Sometimes they start to look alike. The InterContinental Dublin is a 5-star delight in Ireland. Especially if your flight originates on the West Coast in the United States. The InterContinental Dublin is the ideal hotel to recover from jet lag. The staff is friendly, the beds are comfortable, and the food is good.

Four-story InterContinental Dublin hotel with red brick facade. Some rooms have Juliette balconies with black wrought iron. A water feature, with 6 fountains, shots in front of the hotel entrance. The hotel fountain is framed by two green, leafy trees and the sky is blue.

My husband and I missed the Aircoach shuttle by five minutes and didn’t want to wait another hour at the airport. We learned that it’s best to hail a taxi, rather than Uber, as both services are regulated, and taxis are more easily accessible at the airport. We dropped our backpacks in the trunk and buckled in for the approximate 40-minute drive. Your time may vary, depending on traffic.

Hotel lobby with oriental rug and an oval wood table with white marble top. On the table sit 5 vases of flowers. Two tall black vases hold mauve-colored dahlias with greenery. Three mid-size gold vases hold hydrangeas and purple pansies. Four smaller gold vases hold the same 2 flower varietals. An ornate, leaded glass chandelier hangs above the table. Framed modern artwork hangs behind the reception counter. A hotel employee checks his computer.

The InterContinental Dublin hotel is located in the Ballsbridge area by Herbert Park and the hip Renelagh and Rathmines areas on the south side of Dublin. Even though we are wearing our backpacks, we are greeted in friendly Irish fashion, checked in, and, to my delight, upgraded to a suite. It doesn’t hurt that I have IHG Platinum Elite status.

Luxury suite with king bed, brown velvet headboard and 2 wood end tables and lamps on either side of bed. A brown velvet sofa bed with 3 decorative pillows sits in front of the king bed in a separate room. Brown and cream patterned wall-to-wall carpet in both hotel rooms.

InterContinental Dublin is a 5-star delight when it comes to rooms

The 4-story, 5-star delight in Ireland features 215 luxurious guest rooms and suites. I try to reserve a classic king and hope to receive an upgrade, if available. Our king suite upgrade works because we were not competing with events such as the Dublin Horse Show. This yearly equestrian event takes place next door at the RDS Arena in Ballsbridge, Dublin, Ireland.

Our king suite, #419, includes a desk, 2 tv’s a Nespresso coffee maker and mini fridge. The luxurious marble bathroom features a shower, as well as a deep-soaking tub. Byredo bath amenities are 5-star, as are the white Turkish cotton bath towels. I also love the down-feather duvets and the feather pillows. I looked on the hotel website to see if I could purchase the pillows without success.

Indoor 14-meter swimming pool with separate hot tub. A young man and woman, in white cotton robes, sit by a bank of windows by the pool deck.

InterContinental Dublin hotel amenities

I didn’t visit the spa, but I did get a peek at the 14-meter indoor swimming pool – open to hotel guests. Unfortunately, my husband and I didn’t pay attention to the early evening closing hours. We felt pretty silly walking the halls of the InterContinental Dublin in our 5-star cotton robes and slippers, only to find the spa entrance closed.

Three-tiered plate of pastries, scones and savory quiche and lobster sandwiches are served on a metal afternoon tea tray.

InterContinental Dublin dining and drinks are 5-star-worthy

As a unique and elegant amenity, InterContinental Dublin offers a lovely Afternoon Tea experience. We have advance reservations, as we knew we would be exhausted upon arrival, but didn’t want to retire to our room. The tea and pastries are the perfect choice to relax and recharge after a long day of travel.

Unlike InterContinental Barcelona, InterContinental Dublin does not offer a club lounge. We enjoy tea in the Reading Room and breakfast in Seasons Restaurant.

Natural light streams through the breakfast room, overlooking the garden terrace. The buffet breakfast is 25 euros during our stay. A 5-star dining experience, I didn’t miss the club lounge at this hotel. We didn’t try dinner at either of the 2 restaurants. Nor did we try the Unusual Sour signature cocktail at the Whiskey Bar.

Fresh juice containers are to the right of the breakfast buffet. Meats, cheeses and fresh fruit are on display in ceramic bowls with large silver serving spoons.

Room rates are seasonal, with Classic King rooms starting at 339.00 euros in the low season and 425.00 euros during high season. Thankfully, InterContinental Dublin doesn’t charge a resort fee. Self-parking and valet parking are offered for hotel and non-resident guests on-site.

Check rates for InterContinental Dublin online at Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda.com, or Hotels.com.

The hotel is not dog-friendly unless it is a guide or assistance dog. WiFi is complimentary throughout the property.
