On my solo trip to Mexico City and Cuernavaca after my trip with friends to Valladolid, Mexico, I wanted a hotel with free airport shuttle service. Hotel Riazor Aeropuerto is a perfect fit. The promise of a restaurant, pool, workout room, and high room ratings also caught my attention. This hotel does not disappoint, and the service is splendid.
Getting to Hotel Riazor and Back to the Airport

After I arrived at the airport from Cuernavaca via bus, I found the exit door to the shuttles. Within minutes, the Hotel Riazor’s van arrived. Airport staff at the exit help passengers in this well-run system. The trip to the hotel from the airport is about 15 minutes.
When I checked in at the lobby, the staff warmly greeted me and signed me up for the return trip for the next morning. The staff member knew which shuttle I should take to catch my flight. The staff also gave me a package from the son of a friend of mine. The son lives in Mexico City. My friend lives near Louisville, Kentucky. I said I’d bring the package and arrange a Kentucky rendezvous. He had dropped it earlier.
About Hotel Riazor Aeropuerto, Mexico City

The hotel’s lobby is a modern, expansive space with a long, curved reception desk counter and plenty of staff to handle an influx of guests. The aura is mixed business and luxury. Gleaming marble floors and large abstract paintings with color splashes that highlight the colors of the contemporary furniture create the ambiance that one can count on good service and a stellar stay. If you need money, there’s an ATM. I changed larger bills for smaller cash at the desk to have tip money on hand. Within minutes of arrival, I was on my way up the elevator to my king room.
Guest Rooms at the Hotel Riazor Aeropuerto, Mexico City

Rooms at this multiple-story hotel are a mix of two queen beds, a king bed, and suites. My large king room hit the notes of what I wanted. Restful, quiet, and comfortable. Contemporary furnishings, bedside lighting, a cell phone charging outlet, a coffee pot, and a desk workstation are well placed. The black and white patterned accent wall near the desk adds texture and visual interest.

Plus, the bed’s brown fabric headboard, gold-toned throw pillows, and black accent pillow with the initials HR are aesthetically pleasing touches. I was happy that a large flat screen smart TV could connect to my Amazon Prime account.
The shower’s accent tiles, granite vanity of the sink, and large wood-framed mirror are also tasteful. Quality toiletries, a hairdryer, and thick towels are other welcome amenities. An iron, an ironing board, a safe, and two small bottles of water are other standard items.
Dining Options

I headed to the Hotel Riazor’s Rias Baixas Restaurant for dinner. This lovely bar and restaurant combination on one side of the first floor serves a creative mix of Spanish, Mexican, Italian, and Argentinian cuisine.
The melted cheese with chistorra, a rich dish with Spanish pork sausage and tortillas, accompanied by green and red salsas, was delicious. There was so much food that I took a to-go box and had some more for breakfast.

Although I had leftovers, other breakfast options are the breakfast buffet for a fee at the Rias Baxias Restaurant or to grab a pastry and other light bites from the Cafeteria Bicos. I ordered a cafe latte here as a chaser to the coffee I made in my room.
The Pool and the Workout Room

In the morning, I did have time to head to the indoor pool and workout room. Both are enormous. I hopped on one of the treadmills for a little while. The pool has plenty of lounge seating. The small waterfall is a lovely touch, and the curved glass ceiling is wonderful. From the large picture windows in both spaces, I could see airplanes in the distance after they took off from the airport.
I booked my room through Hotels.com. At the time, this cost $94.53. A suite is $181.00.

By the way, I did give my friend her package. A few weeks after my return to the U.S. we rendezvoused at a truck stop in Louisville as I was heading to Ft. Knox to visit my daughter.

Very timely, as I land in CDMX at the end of October, after a very ling flight. Good to know.
Buzzy, have a great time! I want to go back to Mexico City next year. I just had a taste. Not enough at all.
