When it comes to Barcelona hotels, there are no shortage of options. Hotel Indigo Barcelona Plaza Catalunya is a Spanish delight in a wonderful location. The IHG hotel is a boutique property located in the Eixample District

The lobby at Hotel Indigo has 2 green sofas with 5 matching mint-green cloth pillows on each sofa. Metal wall art is on either side of the walls, above the sofas. Between the sofas is an oval wood coffee table with a vase of fresh flowers. Beyond the lobby is a room into the restaurant lounge. A glass ceiling is above the light-filled lobby.

If you are traveling without a car and plan to spend several days in Barcelona, I recommend purchasing the Hola Barcelona ticket. In addition to unlimited bus and metro access, you’ll catch the airport bus that will take you directly to the center of downtown Barcelona. From there, it’s an easy walk to Hotel Indigo Barcelona Plaza Catalunya.

The 4-star boutique hotel has 82 rooms, all individually decorated. This Hotel Indigo is located in a former hostel, now an historic building. If I understood the manager correctly, this property was the first Hotel Indigo in Barcelona. It’s important to note that there is a Hotel Indigo Barcelona Plaza Espana, an IHG hotel, so make sure you know where you are staying.

Hotel Indigo Barcelona Plaza Catalunya room features

As I was traveling with a girlfriend, I had booked a double queen room. I have IHG platinum elite status and was upgraded to a double queen room with a balcony and street view. Our room, 117, was on the first floor of the 6-floor hotel. Our light-filled room included a mural of Casa Batlló above the 2 beds. The art-filled hotel featured a lot of Antoni Gaudí’s buildings on display. Again, I mention the hotel’s ideal location in the Sants-Montjuiic neighborhood, as one can stroll to both La Rambla and Casa Batlló.

Our room was classified as executive category with a sweet balcony overlooking the street. Black out curtains helped us adjust from west coast jet lag. I also liked that the room included cotton robes and slippers. We also had a room safe, mini fridge, desk, flatscreen tv, coffee maker and teapot.

As two women traveling together, we liked the double sink layout, as well as the tub/shower combination. Biology Smart Skincare bath amenities were featured in the bathroom.

I wish I’d had time to take advantage of the outdoor swimming pool in the courtyard. However, we were busy sightseeing. I didn’t need to visit the hotel gym as we easily walked 8-10 miles per day on our Barcelona visit

Food and dining at Hotel Indigo Barcelona Plaza Catalunya

We didn’t take advantage of the evening food, but we did visit the hotel bar. The sangria and sparkling cava were excellent. Room service was available 24/7 for an additional 5 euros with a 15 euro minimum.

The full American breakfast buffet, with hot and cold options, was priced at 18 euros per person. There was a large variety of egg, meat and cheese selections, in addition to yogurt, fresh fruit and delicious fresh pastries. My friend appreciated the fancy coffee machine. Breakfast hours were 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. daily.

Room rates ranged from 149 euros to 499 euros depending on season and events taking place in Barcelona. This hotel was not pet-friendly. Parking was available for an additional fee nearby. We would definitely return to this Spanish delight.
