When I visit Vancouver, British Columbia, it is typically for my work as a travel writer. This trip, I was here on my own dime and wanted an affordable hotel in an excellent location. Holiday Inn & Suites Vancouver Downtown is the ideal location for work or play.
This was our first time driving from Oregon to Vancouver, Canada, and it was a breeze. We were very happy with the Holiday Inn’s downtown Vancouver location and the fact that the hotel offered safe and secure parking. We parked our car for the entire 3-night stay and walked everywhere on our Canadian holiday.
The Holiday Inn & Suites Vancouver Downtown was built in 1967 and was one of the first Holiday Inn’s in Vancouver, Canada. The 3-star hotel looks and feels like a 3.5-star hotel. The Green Key hotel was completely renovated in September 2024 and is very eco-friendly.
Holiday Inn & Suites room types
The hotel features 245 guest rooms and 6 suites. We are IHG reward members and were fortunate to have been upgraded to a premium king room. Our room, #523, was located on the 5th floor and had a Juliette balcony. It was a corner room and very quiet.
The recently remodeled hotel room included a microwave oven, mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker and tea kettle. My husband and I both appreciated the work desk with multiple charging ports, as well as the comfortable chair and bright desk lamp.
Restaurant and lounge at Holiday Inn & Suites
While breakfast is not included with your stay, the Unwind Restaurant and Lounge served a very enjoyable Eggs Benedict. Breakfast was available from 7:00 – 11:00 a.m. Dinner and cocktails were also available in the hotel restaurant. Ask about the West Coast Social and Happy Hour offerings.
Hotel amenities
Hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool, as well as a gym on the second floor of the hotel.
Again, one of the best things about this hotel was the excellent location. We were 15 minutes from the convention center, steps to posh Robson Street, and an easy walk to the water taxis and Granville Island. Coal Harbor is fun to walk to, and Rodgers Arena is within walking distance.
The 24-hour Breka Bakery is nearby, as is Joe Fortes Seafood restaurant. If you want afternoon tea, you’ll find it at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Hotel rates on this website range from CAD $199 to $699, depending on the time of year and events taking place in Vancouver. We happened to be here to see Bruce Springsteen and the next weekend, Taylor Swift was to perform. In other words, take advantage of booking a fully refundable hotel reservation in advance of your stay.
The hotel offers AAA & IHG discounts. Two additional things I should mention. This Holiday Inn & Suites is not pet-friendly. While parking is not complimentary, the rate was CAD $40 per night with unlimited in and out privileges.
