I’m an IHG member. When it comes to Pacific Northwest road trips, I look to IHG brands. On our recent trip to Washington State, we found that Holiday Inn Express & Suites Burlington was in an ideal location. Ours was a one-night stay, so the 2-star hotel met our criteria for cleanliness and affordability.
Conveniently located off Interstate 5, take exit 229, and you’ll find yourself at this Washington State Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Burlington. Situated in Washington’s Skagit Valley, the hotel is close to Mount Vernon and 30 minutes away from Anacortes. We drove to the island of Anacortes for dinner.
The 75-room hotel was almost completely booked, but we managed to get upgraded to a king suite. The 3-story hotel is near the freeway. Light sleepers might want to pack earplugs for the road and occasional train passing.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites room types
Room categories include standard rooms with 1 king bed, 1 queen bed, or 2 queen beds. Eleven hotel rooms offer suites. The suite is ideal for young families, as the sofa bed holds two. We were a party of 2 and didn’t utilize the sofa sleeper.
Our king suite, #202, looked out to a wooded area and was clean and spacious. Our room included a mini fridge, microwave oven, and Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom included a bathtub/shower combination. Like most Holiday Inn Express & Suites, the hotel featured Dove bath amenities. I appreciate that this IHG property used refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles anchored to the interior shower wall.
I also liked that the windows were able to be completely opened to let in fresh air. It should be noted that there was a heating and air conditioning unit in the main suite.
Hotel Amenities at Holiday Inn Express & Suites
If you are traveling with children or you simply enjoy an indoor swimming pool, Holiday Inn Express Burlington delivers. On our visit the pool was open from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. While I didn’t have time for a dip in the pool, it looked clean and inviting. Additionally, there is a fitness center and guest laundry available.
Another tip for families with children is to request a first-floor suite with patio access through a sliding door.

Complimentary breakfast included
A complimentary breakfast is included with this Burlington, Washington Holiday Inn Express. I thought all Holiday Inn’s included breakfast, but that was not the case with our Vancouver, Canada hotel. The breakfast buffet included turkey sausage, bacon, eggs, and an omelet, in addition to muffins, bagels, toast, yogurt, and fresh fruit.
Hotel rates at this website range from $100 to $250. Additionally, the hotel offers an AAA discount. Two additional things to mention. This Holiday Inn Express & Suites is not pet-friendly. There is a large gravel lot on the west end of the building, which is convenient for truck drivers.
