True confessions, I’m a Sligo fan girl. My husband and I stayed here in 2018 and vowed to return to Ireland. A few years wiser and with a slightly larger bank account, we select this 4-star hotel for a 3-night stay. Glasshouse Hotel shines in Sligo, Ireland, for several reasons. The riverfront hotel is centrally located in Sligo city center, and it offers affordable, secure parking.

The architectural design of the 116-room Glasshouse Hotel makes it a standout property along the Garavogue River. Downtown Sligo is pedestrian-friendly, and the 6-story Glasshouse serves as our home base for exploring the vibrant city.
After adjusting to driving a stick shift car on the left side of the road, we feel relieved when we see the sign for the Glasshouse Hotel underground parking garage. The check-in process at this Sligo County hotel is seamless. They even have our room ready before the 4:00 p.m. check-in time. My husband loves that the mechanical gate in the parking garage stores our license plate information, giving us easy in-and-out privileges. On our visit, there was a 4-euro daily parking fee.

Glasshouse Hotel shines in room selection
I’ve learned that I can’t expect a room upgrade when I use credit card points to book a hotel. With this in mind, I typically book the room category that I want for my points-based hotel stay. At Glasshouse Hotel, room categories include standard, deluxe, and superior.
I reserved a deluxe river view king room and am happy with our selection. Our room, #229, is located away from the elevators and right above the walkway to the hotel and the Garavogue River. To my delight, the glass window in the Glasshouse Hotel opens, bringing fresh air and the sounds of the roaring river into our bedroom.

Our room includes a safe, a tea kettle, a 26″ wall-mounted television, a desk with a chair, and a comfortable chair with a round stool next to the side of the bed, closest to the glass wall. The bathroom has a single sink and a tub/shower combination with a waterfall shower head and a separate wand attachment. Welcome Signature bathroom amenities are mounted on the shower wall, and there is a heated towel rack.
The hotel room closet holds 2 fluffy white cotton robes and cotton slippers, each wrapped in eco-friendly cardboard packaging. Our last 2 4-star hotels in Ireland didn’t include robes or slippers. They were not nearly as nice as our most recent 4-star stays in Ireland. I’m truly not sure what defines a 4-star hotel rating in Ireland.

Dining options at Glasshouse Hotel Sligo
The Kitchen Restaurant on the first floor serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our package includes a daily “full Irish” breakfast buffet. The hot and cold buffet is open from 7:00 am to 10:00 a.m. The cost is 15 euros per person.
The Cafe Bar is connected to the hotel restaurant. We didn’t visit this bar as there are plenty of pubs offering Irish trad sessions nightly. The front desk staff has a printout and highlights her personal favorites.

Our room rate for our stay is 200 euros per night (you’ll be paying euros in Ireland) with breakfast included in our package. The hotel offers a best-rate guarantee for bookings made directly, and rates include complimentary Wi-Fi and parking for an additional fee.
