I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Changfeng Park during a visit to Shanghai, China, for a wedding. This is a hotel that understands its audience. Business travelers, conference attendees, and independent travelers who want a dependable stay will feel immediately at ease.
Location
The Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Changfeng Park is located in Putuo District, a part of Shanghai that feels more lived-in than touristic. The hotel is in a faux-colonial building, with a small park and a river behind it. The hotel sits about a 20-minute walk from beautiful Changfeng Park, one of the city’s larger green spaces built around a lake.
The hotel is about a half-hour walk from the nearest metro station, but taxis and ride-hailing services like Didi are plentiful. This would not be my choice for a hotel if you intend to be a tourist at the major sites of Shanghai, as it is not centrally located to the Bund or downtown.

Public Spaces
The public spaces at the Courtyard Shanghai Changfeng Park are modern and clean. The lobby feels open, but with only a small amount of seating for when you are waiting for a Didi or a co-worker. I stayed across the courtyard in a second building, where the lobby was mostly empty with one vending machine.
Check-in was smooth and professional, with staff who were efficient and polite, and English-language support was consistently available.
The hotel has business and event facilities with eight rooms. The largest will accommodate 300 people. They can accommodate weddings or small conferences.

Room Features
The guest room was comfortable and functional. The bed was excellent, and the room was spacious. The decoration was minimalist and in neutral tones.
The desk area was well-lit and thoughtfully positioned, making it suitable for real work. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable throughout my stay, but remember that you will be behind the great firewall of China, so you may need a VPN to get to all your usual websites.
The room also included a seating area near the window. Climate control worked quietly and effectively, and soundproofing kept street noise to a minimum.
The bathroom was modern and practical, with good water pressure and Marriott’s familiar amenities. Everything worked as expected, which may sound unremarkable, but consistency is a virtue in a hotel like this.
- To get to facebook and other sites from China you will need a VPN.
- Buy Travel Insurance
- Get a Car Rental
- Get a universal plug adapter
- Get an eSim to be able to use your smartphone abroad.
Food and Dining
Breakfast was included and was one of my better breakfasts in China, with hot Chinese dishes, fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, and coffee available. It was a great breakfast for lingering and enjoying at your leisure.
There are a few restaurants within a 5-minute walk and more within a 20-minute walk or a Didi ride.

Facilities and Amenities
The hotel offers a well-equipped fitness center with modern machines, suitable for maintaining a workout routine while traveling.

Things Nearby
Changfeng Park is the most obvious nearby attraction and is well worth the time. The park includes walking paths, lakes, and open spaces that provide a welcome contrast to Shanghai’s density. Early mornings and evenings are especially pleasant.
The surrounding neighborhood offers a range of local restaurants, cafes, and small shops. This is an area where people live and work, which means dining options tend to be practical and authentic rather than tourist-oriented. With a bit of exploration, it is easy to find satisfying meals within walking distance.
Suzhou Creek runs nearby, and parts of it have been redeveloped with pedestrian paths and cultural spaces. This area is increasingly interesting for travelers who want to see Shanghai beyond its postcard landmarks.
Who This Hotel Is For
The Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Changfeng Park is ideal for business travelers, conference attendees, and repeat visitors to Shanghai who value comfort and connectivity over novelty.
Final Thoughts
My stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Changfeng Park reinforced why this brand works so well for urban travel. The hotel delivers exactly what it promises: comfort, efficiency, and a sense of calm in a busy city. It does not try to be something it is not, and that clarity is refreshing.
