Best Western John Muir Inn Martinez, California Hotel

Did you know that Best Western John Muir Inn, the Martinez, California hotel, is minutes from the John Muir National Historic Site? Most people equate John Muir with Yosemite National Park. However, Martinez, California is where he lived with his wife and children in the Strentzel-Muir Home. Martinez is also the final resting place of John Muir, as well as a good place for you to rest when you are visiting Best Western John Muir Inn.

The Best Western John Muir Inn and I have a long history together. This Best Western hotel is where my parent’s stayed when I went into labor with my son, now an adult himself. Now that my husband and I live in Oregon, this Martinez, California-based hotel is where we stay when we come to visit friends in Contra Costa County. We like this particular Best Western hotel because it is affordable, clean and pet-friendly. 

Located 3 miles from I-680, 3 miles from the Amtrak train station and 3 miles from the 6,000+ acre Briones Park, there’s plenty to do around this Martinez hotel. The 3-star Best Western John Muir Inn offers 120 rooms with 3 floors and an elevator to whisk you to your hotel room.

This particular Best Western hotel is pet-friendly. Not all Best Western hotels are pet-friendly, so check the website before you book.

Room categories include king beds, queen beds, double queen beds and mobility accessible rooms at this Martinez, California Best Western hotel. All rooms are non-smoking and include a microwave oven and mini fridge, as well as a flat screen tv and coffee/tea maker. There is a desk/work area with a chair, and all rooms include complimentary WiFi.

As mentioned, some rooms are pet-friendly, with an additional nightly fee.

Room 122 is pet-friendly. Our yellow Labrador Retriever sits by one of the double beds, towards the back of the hotel room.

This hotel room included a tub/shower combination with one sink in the bathroom. Bath amenities were La Coupe shampoo and conditioner, mounted on the shower wall. A hair dryer was also included in the room.

A white bath mat was folded over the tub side. A white toilet, with closed lid, was next to the tub/shower. A single sink with speckled granite beige counter top was in the bathroom.

Best Western complimentary breakfast

This Best Western hotel included a complimentary hot breakfast. The breakfast included eggs, bacon and sausage, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.  In the afternoon there is a cookie jar filled with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.  There are also bags of fresh popped popcorn. 

Amenities at this Best Western hotel included a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, as well as a small gym. Additionally, laundry facilities were available.

Room rates depending on time of year. Our double queen room rented for $136 per night, not including the pet-fee and tax. If you are a Best Western rewards member you’ll receive discounted rates, bottled water and sometimes a room upgrade, if available. The hotel also offers AAA member rates.

There is ample complimentary self parking available at the hotel. There is also a shopping center with a Nob Hill Foods grocery store, liquor store, and several dining opportunities across the street. Additionally, there is as a multi-screen movie theater nearby.
