Carmel-by-the-sea is well known as an artist’s enclave. The Hofsas House is no exception and has shared a canvas with artist Maxine Albro. In the 1940’s and 1950’s Albro was living in Carmel. Owner Donna Hofsas commissioned her friend to paint the welcoming mural and the headboard featured in room 47 of the Hofsas House to enhance the Bavarian theme of the inn.

From February 1 – December 31, 2012, the Hofsas House connects with its bohemian roots with the Artist Package. Not only will you stay in room 47, the package includes the opportunity to meet local Carmel sculpture Steven Whyte and take a tour of his studio (located only two blocks away from the Hofsas House.)

Romantic Hofsas House

My husband and I were married in Carmel, so we  think of Carmel By-The-Sea as a romantic escape.  This was our first stay at the Hofsas House and while it is a family-friendly property with a swimming pool and sauna, they offer concierge service and enhancement packages such as s’mores with all the fixings, including a blanket and firewood for those seeking a little romance. Fortunately, Carmel Beach is a short walk from the hotel. Not only is the beach dog-friendly, as is Hofsas House, you can legally burn a fire on the beach.

Complimentary continental breakfast

Your stay at The Hofsas House also includes a continental breakfast. The family-run property likes their guests to come downstairs for breakfast so they can help plan their stay in Carmel.  Of course, you are welcome to bring a tray of fresh fruit, pastries from Monterey’s Paris Bakery, yogurt, juice and a carafe of fresh coffee or hot tea back to your hotel room. Which is exactly what we did, as we didn’t want to miss out on our ocean view room.

Ocean view king suite with fireplace

Our ocean view king suite, room #45, included a fireplace with a Duraflame fire log. We had unseasonably warm weather during or early March visit, so the fire was over-kill in my mind, but if your mate wants a fire, why rock the boat? Our room rented for $175 in the slow season, ranging to a high of $229 – a great value compared to other ocean view properties in Carmel.
