Location is Key at Holiday Inn & Suites Oakland Airport

Lobby At Holiday Inn Oakland Airport

Airport hotels are all about convenience. Being able to roll out of bed and be at the gate in a matter of minutes, is the main lure for travelers. Holiday Inn & Suites Oakland Hotel Airport offers a prime Northern California location, along with a nice selection of amenities that travelers with time before flights, should take advantage of.

Guest room Holiday Inn Oakland Airport

The hotel offers 146 guest rooms, with one or two king beds, and 21 suites spread throughout four floors. Room 239 was surprisingly spacious with plenty of room to move around, and between the beds. If you use your cell phone as a travel alarm clock, there’s an electric plug in the base of the lamp on the table between the beds. All of the expected amenities were in the room, but in addition to a television, ironing board, and coffee maker, there was a mini-refrigerator and microwave.

In case you have to work, the large desk in the room wisely comes with easily accessible electric plugs. The desk also does double duty as a nice table space for spreading out and charging the assortment of electronics that seem to come along with flying. Overall, the room was quiet, with no hallway, street or nearby airport, noise.

Forget something? Complimentary toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, razors and combs are available at the front desk. A coin-operated washer and dryer is located on the second floor, and detergent is available from a vending machine in the laundry room.

Holiday Inn Oakland Airport Sports Bar

Located just off the lobby, Diamonds Sports Bar & Grill offers all-day dining and is a popular spot for watching sporting events.  When I checked in, a little after 9pm, there was a festive crowd gathered. Breakfast is available starting at 6am, which unfortunately means you’ll have to grab food at the airport if you have an early flight.

In-room dining is also available from 6am to 11pm.

A well-equipped 24 hour fitness center is located on the First Floor, near the elevator. The Holiday Inn & Suites Oakland Airport also has a heated, outdoor pool – an unexpected perk.

Fitness Center at Holiday Inn Oakland

If you’re lucky enough to have time to catch a game, the Oakland Coliseum is less than three miles away. The Oakland International Airport is less than two miles, and free on-demand shuttles run 24 hours. The hotel is used by airline personnel. As luck would have it, I met some of my flight crew on the less than five minute ride to the terminal.
