History Meets Hospitality at Napa’s Arbor Guest House

Whether you are a repeat guest or a first time visitor at Arbor Guest House, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve just stayed the night with an old friend. Owner’s Candy and Dan Cocilova take the business of hospitality very seriously at their Napa Valley bed and breakfast. Offering personalized concierge service, comfortable lodging in an historic setting and gourmet breakfasts, these wine country innkeepers blend history with hospitality.

One of the first things I noticed upon arrival at the historic revitalized colonial house was the lack of art objects, portraits or paintings on the walls. Some bed and breakfasts tend to go a little overboard (for my taste) on antiques and lace. Arbor Guest House has kept all of the original doors, hardware and moldings, yet updated the 1905 house with modern amenities. Originally built with love and owned by the Rumble family, innkeepers Candy and Dan bring hospitality to the forefront as soon as you set foot in this old house.

The husband and wife couple share chef duties, preparing the daily three-course breakfast for guests. They grind the coffee and bake homemade pastries each morning. On my visit we munched on scones, chicken apple sausage and chili cheese puff, along with fruit cocktail and fresh orange juice. I would be remiss in mentioning the wine and fruit plate set out for guests in the afternoon or the fresh baked cookies that await guests in the evening after a full day exploring Napa Valley wine country. These are just a few of the personal touches that keep guests coming back to the inn year after year. Some folks that I spoke with make their reservation a year in advance, as they make the Historic Inns of Napa Bed & Breakfast Holiday Tour an annual event.

My garden room was situated in the Carriage House, behind the main house and next to the patio, bocce ball court and private gazebo. The room featured a queen sized bed, spa tub in a separate bathroom and gas fireplace. In total, there are five guest rooms available in this historic inn and carriage house.
