Celebrate Virginia’s Wine Heritage at Local Hotels

Deluxe Balcony Courtyard Room, Keswick Hall at Monticello

Along with the brilliance of fall foliage, these are the days of wine celebrations. Virginia, with its wine-making history that dates back to when settlers first made wine in Jamestown, does wine travel right. October is Wine Month, and several lodging establishments have packages and events with wine as a theme. Here are three that range from a 100-year-old mansion to a country inn:

Keswick Hall in the midst of Virginia’s wine country

Keswick Hall at Monticello, Keswick:  This 100-year-old mansion was restored in the 1990s and turned into a resort hotel with 48 rooms and suites.  Called “intimate,” “charming” and reminiscent of a “Tuscan villa” by Condé Nast Travel, this lovely property is in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Along with being minutes away from Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s historic estate, Keswick Hall is perfect for fall foliage enjoyment and savoring wine.

Two dates in October have a wine-themed meal at Fossett’s, Keswick Hall’s award-winning restaurant. On the 4th there’s La Bella Italia, an Italian dinner with Italian wines. Each wine is presented by a premier wine importer that deals exclusively with Italian wines. Amapola Creek Winery of California was a recent featured one. A sumptuous meal is paired with the wine-making know-how of Eileen McLemore, a California wine expert who worked for the winery for years.

Reservations are required for either dinner. For one of these wine-themed dinner reservations, phone 434-979-3440. For hotel reservations:  888-778-2565.  Bed and Breakfast packages start from $235 per night.
